Wonder if anyone can help with hubbie's side of tree, please?

He's been searching for the surname of James Newton's wife, Annie, born at Highheath, Staffordshire in 1857 and has not been able to trace it.

Any help would be much appreciated by him.

Thanks Maddie, but I think it's not his!

James Newton was born in abt 1857 at Northumberland (Newburn) but we know nothing about his forefathers either.

I'm afraid we do not even know where they married or when.

So, are Annie and Mary the same person or did Mary die and James remarry?

The children's birth certs will give mother's maiden names.

Joyce,

you really need to get some of the children's birth certs to confirm Mary/Annie's maiden name. Without that info, anything else is guesswork.

Barry

Barry Report 24 Jun 2011 12:19

According to the GASKELL family tree on Ancestry James Newton married a Mary Ann DAVY who was born in Staffordshire, in Tynemouth Northumberland
The tree states they were married in 1979 but when one clicks onto the BMD provided for reference it states Q3 1883 ref 10b 335
Mary Ann died in 1909 in Northumberland
If the tree is correct it looks to me that Mary Ann used Mary on the 1891 census and her middle name on the 1901 census

JoyLouise

Thanks everyone. Thomas>James looks right.

James and Annie producing John (we thought John Boald Newton) around 1894 looks like what hubby was searching for.

We know our John B N (known as Jack) married an Ellen Holden b Lancashire and produced a son and a daughter who died in infancy (no idea of time/name) - so James and Annie look like the grandparents.

Hubby's got the gene bug, I'm afraid, so I'll have to fight for my time on the computer!

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 24 Jun 2011 14:07

Joyce again. I've had a quick look and think Mary and Annie may be two different people because:

1901 Census: Annie age 44
1891 Census: Mary age 28

Can there really be that much different in recording ages in censuses?

I may have found the skeleton my husband never thought he had in his tree (and he thought I was the only one with skeletons).
