Mary McBlain born 1815 Help please.
I have found out that Mary was born in Ireland (perhaps County Down) Her parent's were John McBlain and Jane McRoberts. I would like to find out anything about them in Ireland. Have tried but have been unable to find them I would be pleased to have any help or advice..
Mary left Ireland and married David Muir in Rutherglen, Scotland in 1835 and they had a family. She remarried John Robertson in 1850, he was a widower.

Moira....
Have checked the Co Down and the McRoberts/McBlain/Blaine name is everywhere (They came over with the Plantation of Ulster)...however I cannot find a connection so far between a John Mc Blain and Jane Mc Roberts (Variations of both surnames included...also excluded the Mc..)
Interesting that none of the children born to Mary and David were called after her parents..?
Have you checked to see if John and Jane were over in Scotland at any time...I cannot find them...

EDIT.....What happened to Mary and Davids children after she married John Robertson...????

Hello Moira,

It may be worthwhile putting the names into the Search Tree box above (in the dark green bar) as several members seem to have Mary in their tree. You can contact the tree owners for further info. Regards. Cx

Hi All, Thankyou very much for the help and advice.
I have Mary Robertson( nee McBlain) death certificate 4.7.1894 confirming that her parent's were John McBlain and Jane McRoberts It gaveher parent's occupation would it show this if they had not come to Scotland from Ireland? I have Marys certificates for both marriages to David Muir 15.2.1835 on12th Feb.1850 to John Robertson where this time her name appears to have been spelt McBlaine, only once has this happened. The 1851 census shows Ireland as her birthplace, I checked the 1881 census it also shows Ireland as her birth place.
1881 census shows Mary McB. Robertson 65 with Crawford 30, Martha23 and Jane 15. 1851 shows John Robertson 39 Mary 35 Jean 17 Robert 13 John 10 Andrew 8 Isabella 2 Crawford 8minths Agnes Muir step daughter 7 John Muir 4 stepson.

To continue I have lots of certificates from SP to confirm everything. I was informed by someone else that Mary was shown as being born in County Down, Ireland about 1818 in the 1861 census. She died age 79 so 1815 is more in line for her birth. I have tried to access the 1861 census to confirm birth place but there are too many choices.
I have also contacted other tree owners.
It would be great If I could find out something about Mary's birthplace.

Many thanks Moira

Moira....There are still some of David Muir and Mary's children missing from 1851 Census...
MJanet b Rutherglen 1836
Mary b 1838 (Old Monkland)
David..b 1840...

Name: David Muir
Gender: Male
Baptism/Christening Date: 27 Sep 1840
Baptism/Christening Place: , OLD MONKLAND, LANARK, SCOTLAND
Birth Date: 13 Sep 1840
Father's Name: David Muir

Mother's Name: Mary Mcblane
Mother's Birthplace:
Collection: Scotland Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950

Have you checked the 1841 census to see if David and Mary were still in that area...
If the above children havent died then they may be with either the Muir/McBlain relatives.

Re occupation of Mary's parents...The cert would show it whether or not they were in Scotland...What was the occup ?
Not "weaver" please..!!!

Terrific results I appreciate all the information. The 1861 census confirms that Mary definately came from County Down.
Thanks for the information re all the children. Iwill need to sit down and compare notes with what I have.
The 1841 census will be correct and I see that both fathers lived with the family. I have noted the spelling McBlune, McBlane.
On the death cerificate for Mary, John McBlain is down as having been a pattern weaver.

Many thanks Moira

Have just located a death certificate on SP for Jane McBlain widow of John McBlain cotton weaver. She died 28.3.1872 (age 79) in Bridgeton in Glasgow.Parents Robert McRoberts and Jane Reid.
Can find no other records of Jane McRoberts (McBlain) Found on SP a death certificate for John McBlain died 29.12.1860 age 79 or 72. States married but wifes name not shown. Parents William McBlain and Mary McBlain ne McAllister. He died in Silverbanks, Cambuslang.
They seem to be Mary McBlain's parents. So as Mary was shown to be born in Ireland her parents must have come over to Scotland also.
