I got as far back as 1827 William Rothrie and his wife Sarah but I have now got stuck I can find William on any earlier census to trace his household info to get his father foes anyone know any ways of doing this? |

Having said that, I see Sarah was born in Bacup which comes under haslingden, so this is a good candidate. But no way of knowing which Sarah I suspect, even if the correct William! I think you need that birth cert. |
