There is one in Islington and one in Shoreditch. Do you have any idea where it might have been? Where was she in the 1901 census?

Just looked on Google maps to see if Hornsey Street and Eden Grove are anywhere near each other and they are parallel to each other in the same area so I think there is a good chance that the Clara and James records I found on the 1901 census are the correct ones.

I'll take another look

Dea Report 12 Jul 2011 14:47

Well,

It looks like Clara 'did a runner' !

James's Army records are on Ancestry dated 1916.

He is still married to Clara but address for her is 'unknown' and he has his mother Jane named as next-of-kin.

I will see if there is any later clue to her whereabouts in the records.

Dea x

Dea

Dea Report 12 Jul 2011 15:08

Nope - Just read through them - she did not reappear while he was in the Army.

PricklyHolly

PricklyHolly Report 12 Jul 2011 15:26

It could just be then that Clara was fibbing about being a widow in 1911.
Perhaps Frederick is James's nephew..........or do you have the birth cert Valerie that tells you he is actually James and Clara's son?

Dea

Dea Report 12 Jul 2011 15:29

The army records show that James had a son Frederick James (though no year of birth was given for him).
