Find Ancestors

Having just received newspaper cutting of the death of Donald I now know that he was married to a 'Joan' doctor. The accident happened in Hampshire where they were living at the time.

I also know he was a Lance Corporal in the Army in 1941

Donald was born in 1913 and killed in 1966,
I know his parents Sidney Percy Whelan and Ruth Kitty Dearden and I know he had a sister Hilda (not a lot known about her) she and Donald were born in Croydon.

I have checked BMD but cannot find a marriage for Donald to Joan? Any other ideas please?

Perhaps the marriage was outside of England/Wales

Were there any offspring?

Sorry Flick that is what I was hoping to find out or Joan's maiden name.

The newspaper report would normally mention a man's children in such circumstances.........

Have you checked the same paper for his obituary?

Was just looking at that, Sidney is my grandfather's brother, so I think that makes Donald my cousin once removed. Hainv grown up in a children's home I am building my tree little by little.

Nor can I see deaths for Sidney & Ruth...........did they perhaps move abroad?

Ruth died Tring Herts 1941, there is Probate details on Ancestry, she left her estate to Donald.

As to Sydney well Shirley have you found the death I have been looking for, for years, I know that he was in the Reading area in 1939 from documents from the National Archives. Ruth in 1941 said she was a widow but she could have just said that as Sid was bigamist more than once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonder then as Ruth left her estate to Donald whether Hilda had predeceased her.

Not something I had thought about, there are quite a few marriages for Hilda Dearden but none with the middle initials, nothing to make you think yes I will risk that cert.

See that probate on Ancetsry and Donald looks to be the executor. It may be worth getting a copy of the actual will as it may have other family details on it

There is a death for Hilda Dearden aged 1 in Lancashire, my thinking maybe as Ruth's family come from Blackburn.
