Hi, it was suggested I post on here as well as the general board, sorry for any repetition.

I am looking for my Grandmother, Millicent Louise French born in 1921, place unknown but probably in the London area. It is not the Millicent French with the mother Mouland, this is the only one who keeps coming up and I have been through that family and it isn't the right person unfortunately. My grandmother married Alfred Bateman in Watford, 1943. She died in 2007 so her death record isn't listed yet.
She has a sister, or possibly only half sister, Ivy Gertrude French born in Wandsworth, 1919, to Rose Legg and William Henry Brown French (he is listed as William French).
I have not been able to find any further information for Rose Legg and William French that fits, no marriage certificate and no other children.

Either William French or Rose Legg, or both, may have died in the early 1920's as my grandmother and great aunt were taken into a convent in Finchley when 'they were young' but don't have a year, and unfortunately the convent has destroyed records for that period.
There is also a brother, or possibly half brother, by the name of Valentine French older than my great aunt and grandmother, but the only record in that name is not the right person as he died too early, my Valentine French was certainly alive in the 1970s, and we believe he would have been born around 1910.

I hope that makes sense, any thoughts appreciated :-S

As Patchem has asked on your other thread and I asked earlier

When was Millicents exact birthdate please?
Do you know?

Also on there you say she has father down as John French on marriage and so did Ivy although that was changed later.
But you did not say what his occupation was .

2 threads on this subject are not good..

So best to stick to one and say which one..

Edits...

Oh well done Maureen......Trust you to do the sensible thing and find his baptism..: :-D

With regards to her marriage certificate - I do, yes. She lists her father as John French (deceased). However, just to add to the mess, her sister Ivy also listed her father as John French on her original marriage certifcate of 1943 but this was then crossed through and altered in December 1944 by the registrar with a handwritten comment saying "For John French read William Henry Brown French". My grandmothers marriage certificate has not been changed.

With regards to her birthday,

I am not sure how i can confirm or reject the Valentines, only thing to go on is the William French?

Andy - I had come across the Manning, but hadnt found the Valentine so that is interesting, what did you search on for that result?

many thanks guys :-D

Clarrisa.

Did you note the baptism and death for one child in 1906 whose fathers name was William Henry Brown French?

Clarissa

Clarissa Report 28 Jul 2011 23:43

So, her birthday has always been in question, she said it was changed when she found out some information when applying for passport so we have 8th August and 21st August.

with regards to her father's occupation, she said there was some connection with a margerine factory.

as another note, the mother on her sisters birth certicate is listed as Rose French late Humphries formally Legg.
