Susie Floosie Report 6 Sep 2011 21:58

I am trying to find more information about my g grandparents

Robert Jones (Abt 1885) - & Hannah Davies (Jun 1890 - Dec 59)

Children:
Lilian M Jones - 01 Nov 1913
Raymond Jones - Abt 1920
Reginald William Jones - 28 Jul 1921 (Bebbington) - Sept 2005
Derek B Jones - Abt 1924

Unfortunately I have 2 marriages for people of the same names and can not decide which is the right ones.

One on 11 Mar 1911 at Chester registry office (residing Hoole)
The other 9 Nov 1920 at Chester registry office (residing at 25 Alma Street)

I would like to try and find them on any of the census to try and get a thread. They seem to have resided Chester/Wirral/North Wales area.

I know its virtually impossible with surnames of Jones & Davies. Hannah did have sisters called Gladys & Catherine we think ?

Any help would be much appreciated, I do have a little more info but not sure what is correct or what else to add.

Sue xx

If they had a child in 1913 surely it had to be the 1911 marriage? Perhaps someone with access to the 1911 census could find them? It was taken 2 April.

Jill.......What makes this the census for Robert and Hannah ?

Susie Floosie Report 6 Sep 2011 22:29

Margee

That's what I originally thought but some family talk says Lilian may have been born out of wedlock ?

Having difficulty finding the correct birth cert although I have the correct death cert so am sure about dates.

Ooh ... Harriet ... well, I searched for Robert and came up with a short list - when I saw this one I thought Bingo! Oops. Anyway, I will leave it there. As this couple were boarding with a family the names might have been slightly out so you never know.

Thank you Jill ...I do hate it when people delete stuff...I found one rellie coz some of the family lived next door and it was posted by mistake ..so it does work

I know what you mean Kemp.

That last one was the closest out of that attempt - I still favour my first attempt though even if her name is not quite right ... living in Hoole, married just a short time ... it adds up reasonably well.

I think Sue you might just have to bite the bullet and send off for the 1911 marriage cert - it makes sense as if Robert was away during WW1 then the next child born in 1920 fits with that. Do you know if he was in WW1 - it might be worth trying to find army or navy records.

I have the 1911 Marriage cert, but I just can't find a thread to tie things together, as family members do not know Hannah or Roberts parents names, or any of Roberts siblings, although it is thought Hannah may have had sisters called Gladys & Catherine, (Aunty Katie).

Actually the more I think about it and look into it I think the 1911 marriage can't be right as she is down as aged 25 and as I know she was born in 1890 she should only be 21 in 1911.

Just would love to be able to go back further on these family lines, thought if I could trace them on 1911, 1901 & 1891 census I could then go backwards !

William

The fathers names on the 1911 wedding cert are ..... wait for it....

John Jones (Collier)
David Davies (Wheelwright)

on the copy of 1920 wedding cert i have William Jones (Deceased) General labouer and William Davies - bootmaker

The 1920 one ties in with Hannah's age as it says 30, which would be correct with the birth I have in 1890.

Susie Floosie Report 9 Sep 2011 18:45

I have a different wedding cert 9th Nove 1920 that I think fits better with the dates of birth and the fathers names on that are:

William Jones (Deceased) - General labourer (father of Robert)

William Davies - Boot maker (master)

Can you just search on an occupation on the 1911 census??
