Thank you to all who sent in info. New to this so forgive if I'm slow to reply. More information I perhaps should have given; Alfred born in Betchworth given as London although I can only find a Betchworth in Surrey. Wife is Rose and they had 7 children. Lived 3 Foundry Place. All to be found in 1911 census. But, I cannot find any birth or marrige records of Alfred so cannot find Rose's surname or further relatives. That is my problem. Have looked up variations of spelling, Jupp, Japp, Yupp but still no luck. Any suggestion please?

His birth may simnply not have been registered. Until 1875, there were no penalties for not registering.

And there may not have been a marriage...........

There is no difficulty in finding out the maiden name of the mother............the birth cert of ANY of her children will give you that info

You need to buy one of the childrens birth certs and that will tell you the mothers maiden name

Don't think there is a second marrige to a Rose. he states married 17 years on the 1911 census. think he was calling Ada ,Rose.

For instance my paternal gran married twice. Her name was Emma Ann. her hubby registered the births of their 2 eldest children post 1911. He called her Annie so thats what he put on the childrens birth certs.as mums name , plus too on the eldest ones cert he gave her maiden name as her first married name .on the second one he put her correct maiden name. Its only because I knew the info . that I was able to pick them up

There's a tree on Ancestry and it says her name was Ada Buckland. No marriage recorded. All the children are right though.

The 1901 on FMP (posted on page i) has them transcribed as Yapp not Gapp. The one Mel has posted is the same one but the transcriber has wrongly put the name as Gapp

ok, Ginny & Shirley seem to have found the right person except daughters birth certificate, Rose Ellen born 1902 shows mother as being Ada nee Buckland, not Rose and living Luna Street ,Chelsea. Cannot find death of a Rose Jupp or Yapp. Cannot find any of them on a census prior to 1911.
Any help appreciated.
