Looks like 2nd wife Jane Maria (nee CHALLINDER) went from Victoria to Western Australia:

OSWIN J M MRS 29 WOLLOWRA JUL 1903 FREMANTLE VIA PORTS JUL 1903

Their daughter Frederica married there in 1908 in East Coolgardie district (Kalgoorlie) to George BANKS (reg 51).

Her death as Maria:

The West Australian, Monday 15 May 1944, p.1
OSWIN.----On May 13, 1944, suddenly, at North Beach, Maria Oswin, of 10 McCourt-street, West Leederville. widow of the late John Frederick Oswin, dearly beloved mother of Rica (Mrs George Banks) and fond grandmother of Leah (Mrs L. Maynard), Tom, Eunice, Lois (Mrs J. Blllyeald), Malcolm (AIF), Garland (POW), Oswin (AIF), Harry (AIF), George (RAN), Marsden (RAN), Vida, Rica and Beth, and great-grandmother of Janice: aged 82 years.
OSWIN.-On May 13, suddenly, Maria Oswin, dear Gran of Tom and Muriel Banks and Great-Gran of Janice. Fond memories.

Note the marriage of Fredk John & Jane Maria has his birthplace as London and hers as Manchester. Appears she had a brother named Wm Hy Lear CHALLINDER, also born Manchester, who lived in Sandhurst in the 1870s-80s too. He was an ironmoulder.

I notice that Frederick John did show himself as Married on the 1881 census, even if he wasn't living with Alithea.

Good spotting Sylvia! Seems she is about 10 yrs too old unfortunately (unless she was fibbing about her age! maybe that could be why he left?!)

I have a possible marriage for grt grand daughter Janice, and possible contact details, if you are interested. Not sure how much she would know about the family history but I guess she might be interested or have some old family documents, being the eldest grandchild.
