Very grateful for your help if you have a John Cornelius Dickinson or Sarah Amos in your trees. They were married in 1899 in Wednesbury.

Sarah's father was Jacob and John's father had the same name. :-)

Mary Ann Rose in 1871?

William is a forgeman, ironworks. On the image they are dittoed as born Staffordshire, but it could be a communal ditto to mean Staffordshire, Wednesbury, from the entry above William's.

Have you put John and Sarah into your tree? I can't see them when I Search Trees on this site.

That is the best place to look for other members who may have a connection to you.

On Sarah's marriage certificate it say Jacob deceased in 1899. Profession states Jacob as a mechanic but she marries an iron worker which fits in with the Amos family.

Sarah wasn't with her parents Jacob and Mary Ann in 1891, as she was working as a servant. Interesting that the boarder where she worked was in the gas tube trade, as was the 'single' Jacob Amos from 1881.

Thanks for your help! As I see it there are 2 possible Jacob's and Sarah's?

I'll plot it out tomorrow but I think this is where I get stuck.... :-S

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 13 Nov 2011 21:59

My gut feeling is that 'single' Jacob in 1871/1881 is actually the Jacob who was married to Mary Ann Rose, but you might need to get their marriage cert from 1877 that I posted, to confirm both his occupation and that of his father, along with his father's name.

Also, although a gas tube worker in 71/81, that Jacob's younger brother Lot worked for a blacksmith, as did YOUR Jacob in census 1891.

I really feel you need to get that marriage cert (and possibly Sarah's birth cert as well).

Unfortunately there are two possibilities for Sarah's birth ref:

Births Dec 1877
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AMOS Sarah West Bromwich 6b 883

and

Births Jun 1878
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amos Sarah Ann W. Bromwich 6b 892

So I really would be tempted to go with the marriage cert first.

Jacob Amos is sufficiently distinctive a name for it to be unlikely two of them of similar age would both be living in or near Wednesbury.
