Hi Derek

Some other suggestions for you:-

if there are sons of an age to have been in a war, the Last Post is a good place to check:-

There are several William Gilchrists -- Parry Sound might not be too far off for Penetanguishene. One has a birth date of ca 1924, there's another in Ontario c1919.

If you know middle initials, that would help a lot.

There's also one William at the virtual war memorial (one of the ones with no personal information, wouldn't you know):

How about just write to Gilchrists in Napanee? Only four!

I owe a great vote of thanks to all those who worked so hard for me on this enquiry...Brilliant contributions from Robin 7..Glitter Baby...Margee..Marie Celeste ..Mgnv and SylviainCannada.......

I think the saga has pretty well come to an end due to the resrictions imposed by the 100 year freeze on Canadian records....

However, one bewildering question had been answered....that of MARY JANE BLASHILL.....the parents that I originally found, then rejected, turned out to be correct.

It is after all quite simple..I now have the marriage certificates for both Mary Janes...........It turns out that "my" Mary jane was the daughter (1868) of Samuel and Jane.....married 06.05.1899..and the other..daughter of George and Catherine..married 05 11.1895.....

Samuel and George were indeed brothers and chose to name their daughters identically..and it all adds up in the end..

Many many thanks to all of you ,and very best wishes for Christmas and the New year.

Derek.
