This one continues to 'puzzle' me:

I found the following marriage:

England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1915
about Lavinia Skerrett
Name: Lavinia Skerrett
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1908
Registration district: Cardiff
Inferred County: Glamorganshire
Volume Number: 11a
Page Number: 778

........

These are the 4 people on the page and I have found the first couple on 1911 census:

Eliza Fanny Francis Jul-Aug-Sep 1908 Cardiff Glamorganshire
Herman August A Haltenhof Jul-Aug-Sep 1908 Cardiff Glamorganshire

Robert Hossack Jul-Aug-Sep 1908 Cardiff Glamorganshire ***

Lavinia Skerrett Jul-Aug-Sep 1908 Cardiff Glamorganshire ***

................

This looks like Robert and Lavinia on 1911 - they say though that they have been married for 10 years and not 3
but I suspect that is because they have a daughter aged 7 ?

.....................

Her age is also out by quite a bit but as Robert would have been so much younger than her,
perhaps she knocked a few years off - NOT unknown.!!

I know that there are many things that don't fit here but I cannot see another birth for a Lavinia
at all and this one does say she was born in Kidderminster!

Also, I cannot see another marriage for Robert Hossack!

What do you think?

This looks like the birth of the daughter:
Births Jun 1906
Skerrett Lavinia Ella Pontypridd 11a 647

I had ruled out that 1911 as ages seemed too far out, and marriage also. (I do not expect people to lie, I suppose)

But if she only married in 1908 we still have not got her in 1901.

I thought this may be the daughter:

Births Dec 1903
Hossack Lydia Ellen Pontypridd 11a 643

Nellie being short for Ellen ?????

Still looking for her on 1901!

If the daughter was born as Hossack then is it from a previous marriage, so they would not have to lie about the length of their marriage, which was why I suggested the Skerrett birth.
But, I agree, I was mixing up birth years and ages for Nellie.

Dea and patchem....
Thanks so much for sticking with this.

Some of my SKERRETTs did move to the south Wales valleys, so this is an interesting find.
I will have to look further into this one.

Thank you

Still doesn't solve where the Lavinia who married in 1896 was hiding in 1901, but it's great to have you on board to find possible other clues.

Many thanks.

We also cannot find births for 2 Lavinia Skerrett's, so more questions than answers.
Do you think the Hossack family went back to Scotland as I could not see any obvious deaths?

Just what I was wondering patchem.

....or overseas perhaps?

I have also looked for Lavinas marrying Skerretts, just in case this accounts for either of the marriages.
No luck there............

Lavinia may have been living with him and using the name Hossack and so they gave this name to their child?

It is of course pure guesswork but worth a little explore, I think?

Sorry - I am a bit 'behind' as I have little grand-daughter here, staying overnight.

I will look into it more as soon as I can.

Just to update all you willing helpers..........

The 1896 marriage certificate of Henry SKERRETT to Ada FELTON arrived this morning.
They married in Smethwick and Henry is shown as 24, a gardener, son of George Henry SKERRETT, a gardener, so it looks very much as if Henry is the one registered William Henry in Kidderminster.

Thank you for your help with this.

.................... so now to sort out Lavinia.........
