i have found the marriage for peter miles to esther its 1886 brighton but esthers surname is either smith or blaber...... they both have the same ref number is that normal ?

One of the Ester's married the other groom (Charles Willson).

Ancestry only has the transcriptions of the 1841 to 1901 Scottish census

Civil registration began in Scotland in 1855.

Which ever way you look at it you need the MARRIAGE CERT

Yes, it is normal for both to show if there are 2 brides with the same first name and the same reference numbers.

However, you still need to get the marriage certificate of Kippen/Miles otherwise you could be tracing completely the wrong family.

and there is an esther eliza smith born brighton 1858 which fits in with the census but theres also an esther blaber born 1859 which also fits :(

Alex,

Without the marriage cert you will be following the wrong families.

You have no idea what the middle name of Arthur actually is or when and where he died.

No idea of how old they were when they married or the names & occupations of their fathers from the marriage cert.
