~~~Secret Red ^^ Squirrel~~~ **007 1/2** Report 28 Jan 2012 13:02
I'm trying to find what happened to one of my ancestors after 1891.
Her name was Ann Brown nee Aspinall. She was born about 1839 in Shevington, Lancashire.
Her last known address was 129 Woodhouse Lane, Wigan, Lancashire, England, she said she was aged 50 then...lost a few years compared to earlier census records :)
Her husband James Brown died at Cherry Tree Inn, Queen Street, Wigan in 1900.
Did she die before 1901 or remarry? Or have I just lost her?
I can't find her on the 1901 census.
If she were alive in 1901 & living with one of her children, the only children of hers that i can't find in 1901 are Thomas Brown (b.1872 Orrell) Richard Brown (b.abt 1877 in Orrell) and daughter Ellen (born 1858 in Shevington). I lost track of Ellen after 1871.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.
Meant to say thanks Dea for looking...I'm just hoping that someone may spot something that I've overlooked.
If she played around with her age, this might be worth considering?
Thanks Gins.... I'll definitely consider that although it's quite a few years out.
she wasn't usually too far out with her age. ages 1, 12, 23, 32, 43 & then 50 through the various census records. I think 50 was the furthest out that I'd found.
She may have died before James (as you say) because she wasn't listed on the death certificate. Her son, William registered the death.
The problem with quite a few of my ancestors and their brick walls is that they have such common names!!
Do you have James's death cert - who was the informant?
Hi Dea, it was their son William however, she doesn't appear to be living with him in 1901.
If he registered the death, there is the possibility that she may have died between 1891-1901.
I was also looking at that death which Gins has posted.
Ancestry has just gone down again but I will keep looking when I can get back on.
Brown........its as bad as Smith!
Ive looked for 'Ellen' using only her first name and year/place of birth on the censuses and tried to match her up with a marriage......zilch
So what about this for her death?
Thanks Dea and Gins. I really appreciate this ladies :)
Are Ann and Ellen interchangeable?
Gins - I know! lol I have got a Smith in the family (different branch) Note the singular- I haven't been able to go further back for obvious reasons lol
I think I have someone who married a Jones. Surprisingly I managed to find her death!
I have Woods who seem to be lost in a whole forest! With that branch, it seems to be their deaths that are the killer and the fact that they go off to sea every now and again.
Thanks for all your help so far <3
Thanks Gins :) However, I've managed to find most of the children up to 1911. It's only richard, Ellen, and Thomas that i lost track of in 1901.
And yes, i've been completely stupid....the death record you found earlier was for the daughter Ellen (not Ann) . Please don't laugh at me! :-D
Yes that could be her!!
~~~Secret Red ^^ Squirrel~~~ **007 1/2** Report 28 Jan 2012 14:29

hello Ann, yes that's her....she may not have a birth certificate but at least she has a baptism thank goodness..

Her father is another mystery (well sort of). I've been trying to pin his death down before sending away for the certificate,

I thought he may have died after 1848/9 and before 1851 as the youngest child Ellis Aspinall was born about then (cannot track any birth/baprism records for him).

However, On Lancashire bmd (re) found this record this morning from 1845

ASPINALL William 38 Standish Wigan & Leigh STND/2/384

I'm beginning to think that perhaps Ellis belongs to another father!

i've contacted someone who has saved Ellis into her tree to see if she may have the parents names (i.e. father) - Ellis didn't seem to marry which makes things difficult :( I suspect that she may not be a descendant and therefore may not have tracked his birth down.
