George, I'm an ex-lecturer and used to worth with Edexcel. I don't know this course. Can you give us the exact title? or better still a link to it.

I am a little concerned as to how much help we should be giving you so as not to invalidate your qualification.

Best wishes

Margaret

"They want answers I don't have". Does that mean your course leaders want these answers? Maybe you could either direct us to the course details, or list the objectives here.

Can I ask how old you are, and why you are doing this course. Being both nosey and caring, I hope.

Best wishes

Margaret

There is this marriage in Fylde:-

Name: MORRIS, William Henry
Registration District: Fylde
County: Lancashire
Year of Registration: 1868
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Spouse's last name: Not available before 1912

Page No: 741

Also on the page is Elizabeth Drummond.

Thanks Kath, Taking all the above info what would your conclusion be?

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 30 Jan 2012 23:47

Well - just guessing really without any certificates or proof to back it up - I'd say that perhaps William Henry Morris and Elizabeth Drummond might be the parents of Susan Churchman Drummond Morris.

Susan then married John Brewer.

Not sure what exactly you are trying to prove.

Remember this could all be completely wrong without buying certificates.

from lan-opc.org.uk more details on the Drummond marriage 1868

Marriage: 4 Feb 1868 St John the Evangelist, Blackpool, Lancashire, England
William Henry Morris - 20 Joiner Bachelor of Blackpool
Elizabeth Drummond - 17 Spinster of Blackpool
Groom's Father: Joshua Morris, Gas fitter
Bride's Father: James Drummond, Dealer
Witness: William Stobart; Mary Parr
Married by: Neville Jones, Off. Min.
Register: Marriages 1836 - 1872, Page 166, Entry 332
Source: LDS Film 1526144

as Kath says you need some certificates to prove these are the right people

Going even further back (but in a different area) there is this marriage - (the only Churchman/Drummond marriage on FreeBMD):-

Name: CHURCHMAN, Susanna
Registration District: Hereford
County: Herefordshire
Year of Registration: 1845
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Spouse's last name: Not available before 1912
Volume No: 26
Page No: 211

On the same page is James Drummond.

I think there must be some connection.

EDIT - just seen lancashireAnn's post, so James Drummond from the above marriage could be right.

Thanks Kath (i can visit anywhere really) Where do you think would be the best place to find the info.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 31 Jan 2012 00:06

Sorry George - not sure what you mean by I can visit anywhere for the info.

The only way to confirm the information is to start with Susan Morris and John Brewer's marriage certificate and work backwards from there. The county records office for Lancashire would be a starting place but without knowing the church where they married it could take a long time to find the information without actually buying the certificate. Family history is a very expensive hobby if you are going to get the proof you need to join up families.

lancashireAnn Report 31 Jan 2012 13:44

this from lancashirebmd.org.uk narrows it down a bit (ie it was not a Cof E church)

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1908
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
BREWER John MORRIS Susan Old Fylde Register Office or Registrar Attended Blackpool OFY/42/12

Do you know if it is likely to be any of the non-conformist churches such as a Methodist (though I am not sure when the need for a registrar to be present was removed) or in an RC church. Otherwise it would be a registry office marriage for which the only way to find the details would be to buy the certificate

Thanks again LancashireAnn, Will see if pension can stretch to buying certificates :-D
