Looking for ANY information of an ALEXANDRINA DUNCAN born 1892 Nigg, Kincardineshire/ Aberdennshire...see copy of correspondance received....

"Henry and Elizabeth's eldest children Alexandrina, Elizabeth, Lily, and
Charles plus Isabella Campbell, all went to Canada. Henry and Elizabeth's son Henry's son Andrew went in the 1960's with his wife and family. Henry, John, Jeannie and Jessie all stayed in Scotland.
Re Alexandrina's 1st child, maybe it was born during the months after the 1911 census as she was not working at that time and her mother should not have needed her there to help as she had 2 other daughters at home, and Alexandrina had already been working as a domestic.
James would not have been conceived for 11 months after the census which gave Alexandrina time to have her 1st child maybe soon after that and get pregnant again. The birth certificate as I said was definitely showing Henry and Elizabeth as parents of Jessie with Henrys shaky signature on registration. It certainly would solve all problems for a search if details of a birth were able to be given as incorrect.
Meanwhile re a search for the girls, Lily I know her married name
was Logan, her husband Bill (William)and they lived in Regina, the other
three if married after arriving in Canada would be hard to find. Death
details there, do show maiden names as they do in Scotland on headstones but that could be a massive search.
Will definitely keep searching as Andrew Duncans wife has verified the family connection and names but I do not find further information forthcoming from her. I could do some phone calls to
check the Logan boys in Regina Canada. Do not know their names but one could have been named William after his father. Charles had 2 boys and Andrews wife had the names but at 86 she may have forgotten.
Ist census in Canada after their possible arrival was about 1916. "

Ian, that correspondence makes more sense to you than it does to us!

Would you mind summarising who Alexandrina was, her parents and siblings. Who were the children of Alexandrina that are referred to, was she married when she had them?

Potty

Potty Report 12 Feb 2012 11:48

And whether you are trying to go backwards or forwards from her.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 12 Feb 2012 11:50

Can't be her daughter because of birth year, is it a connection?

Ontario, Canada Births, 1869-1913

Name: Norma Craig
Date of Birth: 9 Jun 1891
Gender: Female
Birth County or District: Lambton
Father's Name: Charles Craig - a farmer
Mother's Name: Alexandrina Duncan <<

IAN - would Alexandrina have married before or after she went to Canada? If so, who to?

You also need to give us the birth years of all the siblings who went to Canada. If we find one, it often leads us to another family member.

Ian

Ian Report 12 Feb 2012 11:54

Alexandrina Duncan was born in Nigg, Kincardineshire in 1892.
Her parents were Hendry Duncan and Elizabeth Campbell.
Alexdandrina gave birth to 2 children around 1910/1912.
One of these children's descendants is trying to find out what happened to Alexandrina.
All that we know is that she emigrated to Canada soon after 1912.

Tried to trace Alexandrina from her siblings etc...some of whom also emigrated to Canada.
A real detective might find out what happened to Alexandrina, but extensive research so far has revealed nothing...

Yes thats her...Alexara...known to us as Alexandrina born Burnbanks, Nigg.. (not Burn Carks as you have detailed)

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 12 Feb 2012 11:57

Ian, there are some pretty good detectives on here! (I'm not saying I'm one of them, though). There are a fair few Canadian residents who help on here.

It would at least be a start if you could answer the questions I've asked above re: was Alexandrina married and the birth years of her siblings.

Do you believe her children to have been born in or out of wedlock, and were they born in Canada or Scotland. Did she take them with her or leave them behind?

Ian

Ian Report 12 Feb 2012 12:04

See Andrews reply above.....

Alexandrina (or Alexara)...Her siblings and ages can be seen from the 1901 census...All born Nigg.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 12 Feb 2012 12:06

Andrew's 1901 wasn't there when I first asked the question and it doesn't answer the other questions I asked .....

Potty

Potty Report 12 Feb 2012 12:12

There is only one Alexandrina Duncan of the correct age living in Nigg in the 1911 census on scotlandspeople. If she had two children before emigrating in 1912, at least one of them should be on it with her. I am afraid I do not have credits to view it.

Who were her children and where were they born?

Ian

Ian Report 12 Feb 2012 12:38

Thanks "MarieCeleste" and "Potty"....to answer...

Her child and descendants born 1912...we know about and it was said that she had a child prior to 1912...Both born out of wedlock.
Her first child does not appear in the 1911 census either, which makes us suspicious that she either had abandoned that child or was in fact pregnant during the 1911 census.(possible).
Her second child was born late on 1912 and she was to be married to the father....but he found out that she had a previous child and didn't marry her.
They went their separate ways and the child was brought up by HIS parents.

Alexandrinia Ann Jane Campbell Duncan...single and never married took off to Canada apparently....

Her siblings...
Elizabeth Campbell Duncan b. 1894
Henry Duncan b. 1896
Lily Duncan b. 1898
Charles Duncan b. 1900
John Duncan b. 1902
Jeannie Duncan b. 1907
AND INTERESTINGLY JESSIE Duncan b. 1911.

Hope this helps

Ian

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 12 Feb 2012 12:39

That certainly does help Ian!

Hmm.... Young Jessie could well be Alexandrina's.

Ian

Ian Report 12 Feb 2012 12:47

Yes Marie, that was my first impression...Although Jessie's birth details on Scotland's People lists her parents as Henry and Elizabeth Duncan...Alexandrina's parents!....But, But...!!!
And what was Alexandrina doing at home 1911 where she would have normally been away working...(Her sisters were at home in the 1911 census as well)....so they would have looked after their mother....

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Feb 2012 21:14

got sidetracked for a moment by the fact that there was seemingly another "Ina" Duncan

from fmp .......................

DUNCAN Ina 1893 F 1914 Glasgow Canada Montreal

However, this one seems to have travelled with ................

DUNCAN Margt 1895 F 1914 Glasgow Canada Montreal
DUNCAN Robt Adult M 1914 Glasgow Canada Montreal

so presumably was their daughter and a different Ina

....... because of the following information from the rootschat thread the poster didn't bother to mention:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=v6beniv8janivd0n0s5tnndr04&topic=504143.10

"You talk about Alexandrina (Ina) Ann Jane Campbell Duncan (born 1892) - I knew from a cousin of Ina's (Jean Ingram of Aberdeen, now deceased) that she emigrated to Canada and also her sister Elizabeth (b.1894)."

from other responses on that thread it seems that Alexandrina MAY have travelled with a Mary Duncan (married) and Mary's child on the Grampian, 6th May 1913.

The only other suggestion I have to make is ............

Ian ........ please use the Search Trees function (in the dark green band above) to see whether Alexandrina is in any of the trees on the site.

THEN you can send an internal pm to the tree owner to see if they can help.

As someone on that rootschat thread said, Canada has very strict restrictions on time limits before information on bmds can be released, and it is also under the jurisdiction of the individual provinces, so you have to know which province a person was born, married or died in.

Sylvia....

Yes it is very difficult this one...But Canada is our best chance of finding out about Alexandrina....I have sent you an old photo of her.
One would think with a name Alexandrina Ann Jane Campbell Duncan...it should be straight forward.
If she was still in the UK, it would have been solved by now.

So I'm afraid the search continues...Just need a breakthrough.
Attempts to contact siblings etc have yielded nothing as yet.

Thanks again

Ian
