I just cannot see any marriage for Jane and Henry Charles Page



so I have to ask again .......


could it be that they did not marry, but lived common law???

Maybe they didn't get married because Jane was already married??

That IS another possibility that I had thought of, but searched out.


It IS going to be difficult to prove though, because by the 1881 Census Jane is with Henry Charles in Worcester

Not, I think, the Jane who married John Durant Partridge .............. there is a will from 1916, when he died, granting Probate to his widow Jane


and I've found them together on the 1891 Census, living in Chulmleigh

Jane Cann married George Luxton, and they are living in Beaford, Torrington, on the 1881 Census, with 3 children.



so the Jane we are looking for was not apparently married before marrying Henry Charles.


May be he was married?????

i have her birth cert stating mother as Jane Cann

It's jane and Henry Charles Page marriage i'm after.
Bertha Page married George Edward Smith
Smith is my Fathers surname.

I also have a Jane smith who married Thomas Page,
So it is very confusing.

........... and it is Jane and Charles Henry Page marriage that we are trying to find


and it is obvious, if you read carefully, that we have been unable to do so


Therefore, the suggestion is that they DID NOT marry ............ possibly because one of them was already married, or because they did not want to get married.


I think we have also proved that Jane went on to marry Henry Penrose in 1899.


We have tried, but not found a marriage for Jane Cann to someone else ................... now you need to see if you can find a previous marriage for Henry Charles Page.


If not, then you will just have to accept that it was a common-law relationship ...... which was just as common in those days as it is today.
