My great grans sister was born in 1885 so cannot still be alive and yet i cant seem to kill her off...

Don't worry too much about middle names.
One of my lot invented a middle name for himself when he married for the 3rd time..... Presumably to sound posher....also took 10 years off his declared age !

Looking at the 1891 census it seems that Ellen and Mary are Josephs children and the others are Catherines

Indeed on closer inspection the other three Edge children all say stepson or stepdaughter

OK, so Ellen was not the daughter of Catherine Ainsworth but of Joseph's first wife Elizabeth?
