Hello Anne,

It may be worth putting the name Platt and area Shevington into the Search Trees box above. There are quite a few members who have Platts from that area in their trees.

If you find a connection, you can contact the tree owner to see if they can help. Regards. Cx

Hi Mike , Yes I'm pretty sure that's him , but obviously can't be certain. I have his marriage Cert (hence can confirm his father is /was John Fisher). Its his ancestors that I'm trying to trace. I have traced his wife's but can't find anything on William prior to 1841. Thanks Anne

----------------------------------------------------

The informant on the death cert would be a clue to it being the right William.
If it's not him you could be working on the wrong set of numbers

Using http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/
Here are the pre-1840 Wm Platt births of Wigan RD. Neither look like our guy.
Shevington is in Standish parish, and I would expect a birth rego'ed in Standish subdistrict for our guy.

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1839
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
PLATT William Wigan Wigan & Leigh WHITTLE WIG/4/322

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1840
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
PLATT William Aspull Wigan & Leigh TURNER ASPL/2/257

I think Wm's mum was Ann. I don't have a sub, so I can't check the censuses prperly, but it looks like Wm was living next door to Eliz in 1851, and his sis was a servant in James's h/h in 1861.

Marriage: 1 Jan 1849 All Saints, Wigan, Lancashire, England
James Ashcroft - (X), 32 Collier Widower of Orrell
Ann Turner - (X), 26 Widow of Orrell
Groom's Father: William Ashcroft, Collier
Bride's Father: John Aspinal, Collier
Witness: Henry Ashcroft, (X); Elizabeth Jeffs, (X)
Married by Banns by: Henry J.Gunning Rector
Register: Marriages 1848 - 1849, Page 131, Entry 262

Maybe some with a sub can look these censuses up - they're Platt/Ashcroft on Ancestry, but on FMP:

LK has posted James 1851 - Wm is in the immediately preceeding h/h

I think Ellen may be a Platt. I think I saw the marriage last night. I am off to work now but I am sure someone will follow this through.

Small village communities often had multiple marriages within the same families.

HI mgnv, Thanks for looking. As I say, I have all his wife's side. It is William Platt (Mother probably Ann - per Census' -, father given as John Fisher at his marriage) that I am looking for. As you have found , the Wm Platts registered (and on baptism records) are not the one I am looking for. Anyway, thanks again. Anne
