I'm trying to find the marriage of William Matthews born 1844 in East Dereham. I have details of his wife from the birth certificate of their daughter, Estella May Matthews born 1878 and her name was Emma Harman. However I have looked on ancestry and some other sites and cannot find a marriage for William and Emma. Their first child, Emma Matthews was born in 1872. I have found a marriage in 1871 for a William Matthews and Emma Rayner and I suppose there may be a chance that the surname has been written down wrongly? Can anybody help.

No I haven't. There was a Emma Caroline Harman born around the same time (1852) but its not the same Emma as I've looked into her marriage etc. There are a few Emma Harmans and Emma Rayners in the 1861 census but not born in 1852 and its a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. My Emma was born in Gressenhall, Norfolk.

This is Estella in the 1881 census - she was staying with her aunt and uncle (Elizabeth Rix nee Matthews - William's sister).

so born 1853 and having a child in 1872 she would have been c19 when the child was born so a bit young to have been married and widowed. not impossible but ??

It may be that William and Emma didn't marry, but I may obtain the marriage of William and Emma Rayner to investigate further (I know William's father and that he was a Millwright engineer). The alternative is to try and find out where I can search the church records for East Dereham.

I have been looking on Family Search for my family in Norfolk, with little sucess.
Thought I'd try somewhere else.
Went to GENUKI Then Norfolk Church Records.
Then scroll down to Baptisms = Norfolk Baptism Project 1813 to 1880
It is a link through Rootsweb and lists churches with those highlighted that have been transcribed.
