LOL!! Thanks guys!! You're all brilliant!!

I figure Mike has hit the nail on the head with Lily 1882. I will pop in to the library tomorrow and check parish records for the Mason/Blower marriage cert of 1901. This seems more logical. Although a nun in the family would have been interesting.

Now...this thread has brought me to another long unsolved mystery...? WHY can I NOT find my Grandfather and his parents/siblings ANYWHERE in the 1911 Census?

George Mason 1876 (Head) Hinckley
Ellen Mason 1877 (Spouse) Birmingham
George Mason 1904 (Son) Birmingham
Walter James Mason 1906 (Son) Hinckley
Arthur Mason 1909 (Son) Hinckley
Cissie Mason 1910 (Daughter) Hinckley

I have tried all variations of spellings... have even looked in Birmingham area again (where George and Ellen were married and lived til 1905) but to no avail.

This is frustrating.... :(

I took a look at the census both sides of the Convent. There are no numbers which is a real pain but properties include The Poplars, Rustic Cottage, The Lodge, Ashleigh, Sherwood and Earlswood.

I was hoping to be able to pinpoint the location but typically Birmingham, old stuff gone in favour of not old stuff. Not many properties old enough but some of sufficient standard for Brum to have names rather than be known by numbers on the other side of the road further down. I took a trip down the road courtesey of Google Maps but couldn't spot houses with those names.

What I did find was Highclare School founded in1932. Just to look at that building shouts religion. I would be gobsmacked if that wasn't the Convent in 1911. I couldn't find out for certain on the two sites I looked at for Highclare. It's number 10 Sutton Road. Next along is Erdington Abbey at no.32. It's Catholic.

http://www.erdingtonabbey.co.uk/index.asp .

Next to that is The Abbey RC Primary School. It is definately old enough to have been a school in 1911. Well at least the front part of the building closest to the road

After that building there's nothing of importance.

The opposite side of the road is just car dealerships.

Hope this helps to give you more of an idea of the probably location.

Oh boy. I didn't spot the second page before I went off looking for this place. No nun in the family then. Hey ho. I had fun looking for it though. :-D

Jill.... :-D :-D Thanks anyway....

Hi Mike... I saw those earlier but not mine... all mine were born in Hinckley, Leics except for George Mason 1904 in Birmingham. It is proving an unsolvable mystery to me.

Darren, I have people I can't find on 1911 but others who have Anc have been successful. It's all something to do with the transcribers and where GR got their transcripts from compared to where others did.

I have got Masons in my tree who have sometimes been a part of the Birmingham area.

Why don't you pm me exactly who you want me to keep an eye open for whilst I'm looking for my own.
