hi folks, my first post and wondering if anyone can do a look up for me? im trying to find where a thomas steel may be buried...

this is the information I have so far...

thomas steel born around 1771 in quarnford,

married 1789 Sep 3 Thomas STEEL & Elizabeth SHATTAW Wit: John Downs, Henry Wood in alstonefield i managed to find his death certificate and im sure its the correct thomas steel

death in the sub district of longacre - leek union - county stafford died goldsitch moss, 1849 aged 79 occupation collier,

this may not be the correct thomas steel... as other information has him as a farmer...

if anyone can help or point me in the right direction that would be great :)

Just checking - this is him 1841? With wife & others. No sign of him with Esther & Martha (daughters?) 1851 as you know. I think it a bit unlikely he changed to a miner though!

hey guys, sorry for the delay in getting back to you,

im new to the site and just to say thanks for the help, appreciated

Ive had trouble trying to find or pin point my Thomas steel... i researched as far back as to Abraham steel born in 1805, Abraham remarried late in his life to a Emma hunt. with this i could order his marriage certificate that stated his father as Thomas steel, deceased.

possibly the Thomas steel certificate I Ordered may not be the correct Thomas... or it may just be that he was a collier "miner" and the information that he was a farmer was incorrect.

hi brummiejan :) ha like the name, im also from Birmingham :) but yes thats the correct Thomas, im sure thats him. listed with his wife Elizabeth est birth around 1771

ive noticed that in my family tree the grandparents names are often passed down, either used as middle names, or first.

I started from Jesse steele was a police inspector, ive got old pictures of him passed down through the family, that how i then traced his father Abraham and then Thomas, but little stuck finding anything on Thomas.

hi anncardiff, thanks for that information really helpful, looks like Abraham and his father got married in the same church? but not buried.

has anyone got an idea as to the strong religious names used? Jesse, Abraham, etc?

Hi vera, will check those links out thankyou :) yes ive seen the names Esther and Martha before... could be daughters.... ive found most of my ancesters had up to ten children which i guess was common to have a big family.

Hi allotment, thanks again, that could be Thomas? what would the reason be that they would be buried separately?

thanks again for all your help, as I said new to this site and suprised with the feedback/help

Jujst a couple of queries:

who was the informant on the 1849 death cert for Thomas and
from which record did you get the information that Thomas was a Farmer.

On the 1841 census, Thomas is with Elizabeth, Martha, Esther and George Steel. It is possible that George is the son of Martha

hey Vera,

thanks for the information on george and martha, never seen that information before :-)

regards thomas, i made a mstake it was abraham thats listed as a farmer... ive tried to look at the original record 1841 census that you found with thomas but cant quite read what his occupation is? could it be collier? as what ive got on the death certificate...

I Actually found his death record on this site, I then ordered the certificate,

leek union, sub district of longacre, died at goldstitch, 17th of march 1849 aged 79 im guessing this is the correct thomas steel and ordered the correct certificate?

allotment Report 28 Jun 2012 20:23

It looks like a farmer in 1841 but if it's a dot above an i then it could be farrier at a push but certainly not collier??

peter

peter Report 28 Jun 2012 20:42

bit of a mystery what his occupation could be.. hard to read, I also cant quite read what it states on the death certificate, again looks like collier or farrier, i can only read "ier" and unsure what the first part reads.

His son abraham was listed as a farmer...

thomas steel is a little elusive!

Vera2010

Vera2010 Report 28 Jun 2012 21:26

I agreewith Allotment definitely not collier which is listed for person above on 1841. Other farmers on the sheet and it looks the same to me. Could be a farrier but not sure one small area would have too many of them. As he lives in areas where there are collieries could have changed occupations.

It seems unusual that a Joseph was the informant as the 1841 has him living with family.

I will pm you my e mail so that you can send dc to me on attach if you like
May be cause of death could give some indication to occupation.

Have seen the bc. Looks like Collier to me for Thomas' occupation.

Can you confirm that you have seen Jesse's marriage cert and the occupation of Abraham

Was there an occupation for Thomas on Abraham's marriage cert

Hi vera,

ive not seen jesse's marriage certificate, just information ive found on the census, also the information ive been given for abrahams marriage certificate, as he remarried to emma hunt late in his life in sutton, states father thomas steel, "deceased" if I was to order these whats the best way to order death and birth certificates?
