I am having trouble locating a birth record and census records for Nellie Wootton, born c1889. Unfortunately I do not know where she was born or if Nellie was her actual name or nick name. Her marriage certificate states Nellie Wootton and her father was listed as William Wootton. Her year of birth is based on her marriage record and death record - her first marriage cert works out she was born 1889, while her second as 1891 - we think she died St Pancras 1960 which states birth year of 1885. She married Frederick Wood in 1910 and his brother John Henry Wood in 1923. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Both marriages took place in Wandsworth at the registry office.

As for where I think she was born - that would be total guess work - I'm assuming London.

In 1911, she would have been married to Frederick - I have found him on the census away from home living in Bedfordshire - he was a commercial traveller but have not been able to find Nellie that year or the ones before.

Also Nellie's father William was a Builder.

Unfortunately that Lillian shows up on the 1911 census with her sister Rosina - still listed as Wootton and single - Nellie was married by then so it's unlikely it's her.

Elizabeth is listed as widowed in 1901.

Nellie's father was William not John so that rules those ones out as well. William was listed as a Builder in both 1910 and 1923 marriages - no mention of whether he was deceased or not.

As there isn't an obvious entry for Nellie 9with father William, a builder) on the 1891 or 1901 census records it is possible that her father died when she was too young to remember him or perhaps she was illegitimate and never knew him.

It is not uncommon for inaccurate details to be given for the father on a marriage entry.... often the details given are those of a grandfather or stepfather or entirely ficticious.

Ah ok - see what you mean. Found this 1891 entry for a Maud Wootton which could be one of those girls - looks like that Nellie would have been born slightly later in the year so doesn't appear -

Mother listed as a widow so perhaps Nellie was conceived and then the father died? That said, I looked up the 1881 census and she is also listed as Widowed then too so perhaps she had lots of illigitimate children.

I think this Nellie married Arthur Tremayne Gwilliam and appears on census with that surname so looks like that lead has come to an end.

Sarah, the Maud and Nellie on the 1901 census are together on the 1891 census (with Nellie listed as Helen) that I posted above. The girls are with their parents John and Mary Ann in 1891. Looks like Mary Ann died in 1893 and john married Elizabeth Giddons in 1894.

I think the Maud in the 1891 census that you have posted is a different family.

She married 1/11/1910 address 18 Disraeli Road Putney age 21 = 1889 it says Fredericks dad Henry is deceased,her dad William a builders foreman witnesses C Wood and Violet Wood.

25/6/1923 she married John Henry Wood it says he was a batchelor but he was a widow.Nellie age 32 = 1891.
His dad Henry deceased her dad William a Builder doesn't say deceased on either of the certs.
