Yes that looks like him. I found a corresponding birth for him too in Brimingham which is where he married Hilda.

Just found Elsie Wellum's brother Thomas James Wellum living in Smethwick too so I wonder whether Elsie went up there too along with the daughter Elsie.Elsie then staying there to marry Walter Hackett. Perhaps not all the children were given away?

Sarah Report 11 Sep 2012 16:57

Unfortunately I do not know when Hilda died. She married Daniel F Edge in Birmingham in 1940.

Sarah Report 11 Sep 2012 15:21

Thatnks for the daughter Elsie's marriage and death. I had found that this afternoon. My grand aunt knew the husband was called Hackett. She said he was a famou cricketer. I did a quick google search and found a Walter William Hackett who was a cricketer in Smethwick which corresponds to Elsie and Walter's marriage place but his obituary states he died 1964, aged 89 - making him born 1875 which would be way too old I should think to be the guy who married Elsie. He does have a son called Walter Hackett born 1900 which would work out better age wise but I don't know whether he was a cricketer or not! I suppose my grand aunt could have that bit wrong!

Sorry Sarah (had to answer the telephone). I have edited that post to show that it probably wasn't him.

As has already been said, it may be worth splashing out on his birth certificate to find his father's name.

It certainly looks like his mother's "remarriage" that has been posted.

That's interesting rootgatherer - does it say where he was from at all? EDIT - just found it - says he was living at Harringay. It does list a wife further on - Edith Emily Seadon so looks like it isn't the one.

As Walter was born around beginning of WWI I did wonder whether his father was killed in action or perphaps it was as simple as Walter being evacuated to High Wycombe to live with the Williams and he was never sent back to his parents after the war (or his parents didn't want him by then)?

Sarah

Sarah Report 11 Sep 2012 13:27

Could be. I know that Walter's sisters lived further up the country. Hilda lived in Birmingham and got married there and Elsie May in Smethwick. I don't know where William lived but that death does correspond with his birth year in Essex so much be him.

Is it a coincidence that this death is in the West Midlands where that marriage for Elsie Seadon was?
