Did some manipulation of the searches on Scotland's People and found this marriage:

So how could they have had a grand-daughter born c1885? Are they using the term perhaps to mean another relationship?

The death registered in 1949 can not be him

I see Reggie's found another marriage possibility (more likely than the Scottish one I posted), but they still couldn't have become grandparents after 10 years of marriage.

The 1911 census has William and Euphemia married 35 years (so around 1875/1876).

Perhaps one of them had been married before and Emily was a granddaughter from one of the children from that marriage???
