Find Ancestors

I can't find the actual birth record in Free BMD or Genes Reunited to enable me to obtain a copy of the original birth certificate. Trying to make progress with his ancestral line. Can anyone help?

Do you know who he married? His marriage cert will give his father's name, which is a start at least!

No surprise, really.

Until 1875, there were no penalties for not registering births.....and many simply weren't registered

Try looking for a baptism, although that won't tell you his DOB, or his mother's maiden name

He is definitely NOT the one born Pittington........he also appears in 1891

The reg district for Evenwood seems to be Auckland, but this isn't helping!

I can't help wondering whether his birth name was something other than Clayton.......

Thinking the same thing as you Reggie. Have tried looking just John born Evenwood but nothing stands out. Either the name was different or he was mistaken about his birthplace.
