hi there my grandparents were david alexander coutts robertson and catherine simpson, my papa was in the palestine police, my mum davina was born in palestine and aunt jennifer. papa died aged 35 in holy land, hes buried at mount zion. nana mum n aunt then returned to scotland, this was during 2nd world war, im looking for anyone who may know of my grandparents as want my gr8 grandparents names etc and cant find any records, im new to this, my grandparents were scottish from perth, thankyou

The marriage cert really is your answer.................or the 1911 Scottish census

Neither record can be accessed without paying for it, I'm afraid.........

no she was only ever with my papa and simpson was deffo her name, must be misprint as all other matches mums middle name and bday etc

Scottish marriage certificates give the names of both parents including the mother's maiden surname.

Scottish birth certificates give the date and place of the parents marriage which makes finding you great grandparents easier.

Looks like McLaren was Catherine's middle name.

Jayne, I don't think you have got wrong the wrong maiden surname for your Nana. Looks like on her marriage her name was Catherine McLaren SIMPSON.

If you give us the details of the marriage certificate (which you can view online) when you get it then we may be able to help with census records if you require it. The 1911 Scottish census is only available to view on the pay to view Scotlandspeople website but transcripts of other Scottish census are available on other subscription sites.
