Jessies death certificate arrived today - she hanged herself whilst depressed, accelerated by excessive drinking.......

Gosh I don't expect you expected that!

She did seem to have a lot to put up with, babies dying, a husband who wasn't who he said he was and went to prison, although that bit did come after her death.

Yes it will - Johns marriage certificate to Jessie stated his profession as 'Proprietor of the Cocoa Rooms' and his address as 41 West Holborn St....let me check it out.

In the Shields Daily Gazette - Cocoa rooms and 41 West Holborn are the same address

'CARLBERG'S WEST-END COCOA ROOMS, Branch No. 2. 41 West Holborn, South Shields. The above Rooms will be OPENED on Thursday. August 28, 1879, at 12 o'clock noon, the Rev. ENOCH FRANKS, of Hebburn. Revs. James Macken.de, Walter Hanson, and other Ministers and Gentlemen have kindly promised to take part in the in proceedings.

It seems(?),though, that Mr and Mrs Carlberg were not in England during the years that your Mr Berg was in residence.

Don't laugh...I DO try...but where did daughter Freda come from???

The Carlberg's ran the cocoa coffee room at 41 West Holborn in South Shields from 1879-1883...John ran it from 1884 I think until 1887 when it went into rent arrears ands all the furnishings were sold including household stuff.
