I am trying to find William Charles Thomas on the 1871 census living with his parents but it doesnt appear to show up on the GR census. William was born in c1865 in Bosbury Herefordshire. They lived in Leigh Martley Malvern Worcs. He died in 1937 Birmingham

Sorry I am still trying to confirm father. I found William from Cradley Worcs. But I jotted date of birth down and thought he may have been too old - born 1811 so I carried on looking -
I do my best to muddle through at times so apologies.

Oh thank you so much for all that information. I managed to finally find William on the 1871 census with his sister Mary shown as orphans. Thank you once again - another piece of the jigsaw sorted.

This looks like the marriage of the couple that William and his sister are living with.

On the marriage I found it states that Abel married Jane Hill but also states that her father was William Bullock?

I've been trying to find the link between the two names but so far no luck.

I wondered if the marriage to Abel was Jane's second marriage, but can't see a possible first marriage, so not likely?

Anyone any ideas?

My thoughts are that her mother was the unmarried Mary Hill but that she knew who her father was and named him rather than her stepfather Thomas Mason on her marriage. She may never have taken the name Mason although her mother married Thomas in 1843.

Here's Mary and Thomas in 1851 but Jane isn't with them.

She could of course be the illegitimate daughter of William Bullock and (female) Hill

Nice one rootgatherer. So looks like my (female) Hill was Mary who married Thomas Mason and eventually went on to look after her daughter's children when she died.
