Sorry for not replying sooner! I also thought William could be Janes' uncle. I have just re-read the posts and noticed that there are 2 John Thomas in the John and Sarah family. One born in 1828 and another born in 1842 so am going to try to find what's what with them.

For what it is worth, I think that John Jenkins (93 on 1861 census) is Sarah's father. On the 1841 census they are listed directly above Sarah and her husband on the census page.

................so William and Mary Jenkins could also be relatives. Maybe Sarah's parents, although I would have thought that if this was the case she would have been noted as grandaugther?

The John Thomas in 1861 census could very well be the brother of Abel, as mother Sarah looks to be with three other children in 1851 census (see above), and one is John aged 7yrs so he would be 17yrs old in 1861.

This could be the marriage of John and Sarah?

Need to check 1851 for some of the missing children to make sure that they are all from same family, although Abel who is the youngest in 1841 is working as a servant so it is possible that all the other children were also working?

Aren't you lovely people! Thank you so very much for all your perseverence. Dare I ask a question or two (sorry) - on the 1841 census a Sarah Thomas aged 35 is shown - do you think she was John Thomas 50 daughter? No ' wife' or 'daughter' was shown.

On 1871 census 31 year old John Thomas Farmer is living with the Mason family - any ideas whether its John Farmer or John Thomas occupation Farmer

My thoughts are that her mother was the unmarried Mary Hill but that she knew who her father was and named him rather than her stepfather Thomas Mason on her marriage. She may never have taken the name Mason although her mother married Thomas in 1843.

On the marriage I found it states that Abel married Jane Hill but also states that her father was William Bullock?

I've been trying to find the link between the two names but so far no luck.

I wondered if the marriage to Abel was Jane's second marriage, but can't see a possible first marriage, so not likely?

Anyone any ideas?
