I am wanting to know what became of Frederick - Born June 1893 9d669 Northallerton. I already know the following:-
Born to James Holmes & Jane Robinson. Youngest of probably 7 children - Edith, Eliza Annie (my grandmother), Carrie, Henry (Harry), Evelyn, Jessie & Ethel.

1901 Aged 8
1911 - Living with Jane, his mother, and Ethel, his sister, at Court House, Northallerton where his mother was the caretaker.

In the territorials, Northallerton 1915, Private Fred Holmes (mentioned on a letter regarding his brother Harry's death).

Moved to York at some stage? then Rochdale?

Possibly sent post cards home from Italy to his Uncle, Fred Holmes of 18 Filey Terrace, York on 2.8.1918 and 23.8.1918 where he was possibly with the army.

Brother Harry died in 1915 in FWW.

Slight chance he married ? Harrison, born York and had a daughter Margaret E Holmes Born 1922, July/Aug/Sept Vol No 8 E Vol Page 70 in Rochdale.

If anybody could help me find out what became of him and his wife, daughter etc. I would be very grateful.

Thank you Maddie - at least I now know for sure that a Fred Holmes did marry a Harrison, what year and her Christian name and he would have been aged 20. My Fred Holmes was definitely in the territorials in 1915 and at some stage moved to Rochdale.

Thank you Stuart, Maddie & safc.

If Margaret E Holmes is his daughter does anyone have any information on her, or any siblings as well as her parents please.

You can't be absolutely sure it was your Fred Holmes who married Eva Harrison unless you get the certificate - it is a finding based on your "slight chance he married a ? Harrison" Or do you know he did?

Stuart - No, all I do know from a now deceased family member is that he was known to have lived in Rochdale and had a daughter, Margaret. Thank you, I will check those links Reggie.

Did you see my post about the MMN?

If the man married a woman named Harrison, the birth CANNOT be his daughter

Alison

Alison Report 29 Jan 2014 12:22

Reggie and Stuart, thank you. I don't know what Fred's wife's names were - but from what you say it would suggest her surname may have been Harris and their daughter born in Rochdale in 1922 was Margaret M N? Not very experienced in all this - I will look at the links you sent me. Just trying to find out whether Margaret is still alive or married and had a family who are around today.

After following Reggie's advice I have looked at the Lancashire BMD register and found the birth of Margaret E Holmes in Wardleworth, Rochdale in 1922. Sadly in the deaths details is the death of Margaret Ellen Holmes of Wardleworth, Rochdale, Aged 0 in 1922 so I think I now know I won't be finding any further details about Margaret however, it may be that Fred did go on to have other children. Thank you Stuart - that could be the marriage - but not sure why Fred would be calling himself Thomas.

Porkie_Pie Report 29 Jan 2014 13:14

Fred was not calling himself Thomas, you are obviously following the wrong man based on hear say probable's and possible matches of records in the index

You need to find and buy the correct marriage certificate in order to confirm who married who, (the cert will give you fathers details)If known, Only then can you possibly look for and confirm any possible children born to that marriage.
