These chamberlains
The wedding info is spot on and Aunt Annie is mentioned here
However the 1881 census show Eliza's mother as 46 and 1883 marriage shows Eliza as 30 which could be right and wilsford is right

Oh dear. Just come back from making a curry for supper tonight.
If her father was John we need to go back to the beginning and re-find Eliza with a father called John a labourer.

You ask about Caroline Chamberlain - I assume you mean the one in the 1871 census posted on page 1?

She is a daughter of the family. I don't know if this is the right Charles's family or not, as the census record doesn't give birthplaces for any of the family.
It's only a guess, because Charles's age is right.

They may be totally unrelated to your Charles.

What details would you like?

Dea Report 9 Feb 2014 18:32

I am not so sure that it was so unusual for a woman in 1914 to have beautifuil handwriting - I suppose it would really depend on her 'station' in life ??

Do you want to give the details from the letter so that we might be able to help further?

Yes this is the Eliza who wrote the letter now the Caroline Chamberlan in this census is who? The Chamberlains at Wilsford above have a grave next to the Jessops immediately above tihis and we understand they purchased the plot or the Jessop's annoyingly just can't find the connection between the two Chambelain families

We also find the mention of Ratcliffe Hall very interesting because the letter is written by a woman who is very articulate and well schooled beautiful writing uncommon for women in 1914
