hi all
i am trying to trace my great grandmother which is rather difficult as she was born in ireland or at least that what it says on her marriage certificate. her father was called john henry and occupation was a calico weaver..all i know is she was married in 1885 at the age of 23 to alexander scott.

ive looked everywhere on every site i can think of and dont know which way to go now.. only thing i can find is a mary henry born abt 1861 working as a servant in old elvet in county durham and is 19yrsold. can anyone give me some tips on what i could do next..

WHERE did she marry?

English/Welsh marriage certs do not include birthplace info

at the time of her marriage her current residence was hetton downs in county durham .also she died approx 1940 ish in sunderland county durham.

i am rather new to this so any help would be apprechiated

i am just having problems finding any info on her pre the marriage to alexander

i was also wondering, would her death certificate have any info on to as where she was originally from maybe???

Birthplaces do not appear on England/Wales death certs before 1969

thanx for the link, but i have also tried on there but come to a dead end..
on her mary scott (nee henry) marriage certificate there is no middle intials and the census info like you posted yesterday has no middle intials either that why i tried to linit my searches to just mary henry and i am getting no joy..

is there any way of viewing orginal irish documents (census, birth etc) online or, sending away for copies of irish documents at all,?might seem like a stupid question but loosing the will to live quite rapidly :-| :-|

Can anyone suggest anything else i can try as I feel like giving up at the moment, all I have is my Great grandmothers name and maiden name and her marriage cirtificate where it states her fathers name, she was born in ireland but I cant find any record online on any of the websites suggested to go back any further in ireland, are some people just untraceable? the biggest problem is her name is very popular, Mary Henry and her father is John, i have found a few but the dates dont match up.

unfortunately I was hoping that in some census sometime, one of them would have identified a place of birth in Ireland ... 1911 is usually the best hope for that but I can't see George Henry or his family there at all ...
