In my own research I have come accross illegitimate children who have given their grandfather's name on their marriage certificate.
Any idea who Julia's father was?

How can Louisa be Catherine's sister if her maiden name is Hunt and Catherine's maiden surname is Kenny?
Catherine, no, I have nothing on Julia Kenny at all apart from what is on the 1851 Census: cap maker, born Cripplegate.

William Payne in the marriage to Catherine Kenny has occupation Blacksmith, so are you sure 1911 is correct?

Also, 1911 states this couple have been married for 41yrs which would make date c 1870, and not 1864?

Exactly!, not sure 1911 is your couple.

The nephew, William Payne, who was staying with Ann Steel (nee Kenny) & William Steel in the 1881 Census was 8 years old, born Hoxton. The only such William Payne I could find was listed in the GRO Birth Indices, indicating that his father, Wm Payne Sr, was in the army? Could explain why he was sent to live with his aunt for a while?

Just going back to the 2 baptism records I posted for John Kenny and Catherine Kenny under the name of Mooney. Have checked freebmd and John is registered under the name of Mooney but Catherine seems to have been registered under both names, although Catherine is under the name of Kelly and not Kenny:-

Births Jun 1842
Mooney John East London 2 197

Births Mar 1844 (>99%)
Kelly Catherine E London 2 227
KELLY Catherine E London 2 2*
Moon Catherine East London 2 227
MOON* Catherine E London 2 227 (checked original and name is definately Mooney)

As Julia was in the workhouse in 1842 (birth of John) I checked 1841 census to see if Julia was there but can't see her?

On the Payne/Kenny marriage record it states that William's father is a "Silversmith"

If this is William in the 1851 census....then he was not born in Ireland...

Catherine, Chris Ho, PricklyHolly thank you all so much for that valuable info. It was so kind of you all to take the time & trouble to help me. Although I've been researching my family tree for many years, it's been in fits & starts, relying on the internet and, until his death about 12 years ago, my uncle. <3
