thanks so much. Did you find anything on the marriage of Eleanor to John Thomas? I would really love to find if they had kids or not. I have some in my tree (from copying other trees but I am not sure they are correct as I can't find any information on them

Marriages Jun 1923 (>99%)
Sim Eleanor Thomas Bootle 10b 1425
Thomas John F Sim Bootle 10b 1425

Do you know if they stayed in the area? Use http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl to look for Thomas/Sim births.
There are 4 shown within the search parameters 1923-1950, but only the certificate would confirm their parents.

Thanks for that, yes I am pretty sure that is the correct person, No I don't know where they are as my dad didn't know they existed until he finally got a full birth cert himself and by that time he was already old and my gp's had died so no one to ask. This is what started me on my research and I have actually never found any of them - in 6 yrs of research
It does't help that I am in Australila, If I was in England I could start knocking on doors
Thanks Kerryn

Hi again

I can see the 4 births but am not sure where mt bosworth is in relation to Lancashire. The other 2 are in the same area. Any ideas? I actually think it will be arthur j and patricia - they are names some of the others have and now I can actually see them, I dont know why I couldnt find them

thanks again

When ever you are unsure of where a registration district is, click on the district name on the Freebmd search result.

In this instance, the following window opens

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/districts.pl?r=157948234&d=bmd_1399917892

There is then a further (blue, underlined, word) link within the text which takes you to a list of Parishes covered by the District, and details of boundary changes.

To find out where a place is, use Google maps or a similar mapping site. Use the 'get directions' function to get an idea of the distance between 2 known places.

We'd have to do the same if the places were in an unfamiliar area/country/region!

Hi again

I am hoping someone can give me a reference number for James Sim marriage To Beatrice Armstrong (Deakin) in Victoria Australia in 1927. I would like to purchase the marriage certificate but cannot find the numbers

Thanks again Kerryn

Hello Kerryn, you don't need to know the reference number in advance.

Go to Victoria BMD http://www.bdm.vic.gov.au/home/family+history/search+your+family+history/

and search the historical indexes for James Sim's marriage, you have to enter your card details to view the results but once you've found it you can download the image straight away. You can decide whether you want a formal certificate $30.20 or an uncertified image $20. The latter contains all the info you need for family research.

EDIT: Cherilyn had previously given the link.
