Treemadnancy Report 11 Mar 2014 10:53

Hi guys... have tried dealing with this myself but getting quiet frustrated now..

I have a William C Gibson born c1814 in Sutton by Ashfield. Northampshire who has married a Sarah ?

They had 4 children.. Mary A Gibson born Barleston Leicester 1844 Sarah J Gibson 1846 Leicester, Samuel 1848 " and John in 1851 ".

Traced a marriage for a William Charles Gibson to a Sarah Smith in Barleston 1842(same place as daughter Marys birth in 1844)

According to the 1851 1861 1871 and 1881 census William C Gibson was a "framework Knitter" he is on the 1851 census with wife Sarah and all his children.

On the 1861 census he is just with his 2 sons Samuel and John. Where is Sarah (assuming his 2 daughter are either married or left home)

I cant find William on the 1841 census.. And I am trying to trace his parentage.
According to the 1851 census Sarah was born in Ibstock Leicester and aged 20 (which I think must be an error as this would make her 13 when she gave birth to Mary who is aged 7)

Help!!!! :-S

There is this Sarah in the 1861 census (but seems strange to have another son called Samuel):-

Could Sarah have left William and had these two children with someone else??

It looks as though there may be another person in the property, though he is not classed as being in the same household.

That person is:

Charles Wood, a widower aged 66 - a Bakers Shopkeeper born in Kirk ??ton, Derbyshire.

EDIT - Sorry, I didn't refresh the page and Kathleen has already posted the same family. ;-)

On the 1871 census William is recorded as "married" and on the 1881 census he is a widower. Could this be Sarah's death? :-

Is there a christening record for Clara? Is a father named for her? If no father mentioned again perhaps she DID leave William.

Well done Gins. Just come back to this thread after lunch.

William Gibson in the 1841 census is a Stocking Maker which ties in with being a Framework Knitter.

Looks like you've found what Treemadnancy was looking for.

Will try and suss out the births Clara and Samuel in 1861 and see if its to Sarah Gibson (ne Smith) or will it not say?? Might be an idea to see if the first Samuel born 1858 has died before 1861
