A big thank you to everyone for all your assistance with this, once again you have shown the true worth of this site and that is the valuable work done freely by those who volunteer their time and go out of their way to help others with their research.

I shall be working on all the information that you have provided and hopefully be adding, not just quite a few more individuals to my tree - but another branch.

Thank you all once again :-)

Worked my way through the information for the Pick branch, now looking at the information from 1911 Census for the Empson branch which rootgatherer provided - and I am wondering, because I cannot find a mother's maiden name for Hope or any of the other Empson children, if this could be the marriage for Hope's parents :-S

Last name ELLETSON
Marriage quarter 4

Part of the 1911 which I posted overleaf. William and Mary Ann married for 22 years so marriage around 1888. The one you have found is probable but you would need the birth certificate of one of the children to confirm mother's maiden name.

greyghost - firstly I must apologise for not giving you credit as well as rootgatherer for providing details of Empson family on 1911 Census, I did not scroll all the way back through the thread when I made my post.

As to that Lawrence Edmund Empson - I am pretty sure that must be one of the 3 children who died. It looks like come pension day at the end of the month I may have to bite the bullet and purchase Hope's birth certificate from GRO.

This genealogy lark is proving to be quite expensive, how I wish English records would provide the same amount of information as Scottish records - it would make life so much easier.

greyghost Report 15 May 2014 14:02

Scotland can still get expensive - I bought 30 credits yesterday from Scotland's People but it's so easy to "spend" those credits without really thinking about it - all those 1911 census.........not many credits left now!!

Most of my family research is based on Scotland, and I have spent a small fortune on Scotlands People since I started my research in 2012, especially on my 2 main branches, the Wotherspoon's and Clusker's, it was ok when I was working - but since I retired I have had to cut back substantially.
