Yeah, interestingly why would the family change denomination?

And yeah, I can't find a burial for Robert yet,but also nothing for Joseph.

There are quite a few deaths for Joseph around London (based on his army base in 1851 ... assuming he is the brother born in 1825).

the records posted by Ann show two records for Robert Lever born 30 Nov 1828 in Bolton le Moors son of William and Mary

one would really guess that they are the same child

the non-conformist one names the mother as Mary Lee

so they seem to have married C of E

he may not have survived childhood

and between 1838 and 1851 alone there were 13 Robert Lever deaths in Bolton (too early to show ages)

unless you can find a Robert Lever in a census or find a military record for instance, that matches him by place and date of birth or some connection to known family ........

Thank you JoonieCloonie ... yes, I agree with what you say, but I've also thought, it is sometimes worth researching into the those from the same area/same names as your family as a way of removing them for certain from your research, as has been the case with me at times.

And often the 'move' or requests can sometimes change within a post.

With that, I am always amazed at how helpful these boards are and I am very grateful for the help recieved on here.

I would like to find out more about Joseph's military career and to try to asertain the death of his parents if possible.

And now with Ann Cardiff's fantastic find of Robert Lever, I would also like to find more on him.

what I was suggesting was that without knowing whether Joseph was related to your family, working forward could be a waste or your and others' time

it does look from the baptisms Ann found that your James (whom you had not named at first) had a brother Joseph

but I expect you know how often it happens that people light on someone and start researching them, e.g. tracing them forward, when the person was not related at all

it is only by knowing how you have established the connection that anyone else knows that there is a connection and so that the work is worthwhile

and also ... it is only by knowing what and where you have searched yourself that anyone else can know what and where to suggest you search ...

Reggie, I have over 12,000 names in my family tree. I've been researching since 2002. Just to be clear, sometimes, when struggling with a certain family, I will put a request on here to have someone else look at the situation with a fresh pair of eyes. I have used those websites, drawn certain conclusions, and have come back here in the hope of getting further validation.

So, if anyone can help by posting here, it would be highly appreciated.

I think Joseph is a brother of my ancestor James, mention in AnnCardiff's posts. I already had those baptisms but as we were working forward with Joseph, not backward, that is why I never mentioned them.

How would I go about with obtaining Joseph's military records?

however as Beverley said you really need to be tracing backward i.e. through your own ancestor to find whether he or she had a relation by this name, rather than starting from a person you think might be related to see what became of him ... he might not be related, or be related in some other way ...

If you think he may be a distant uncle, then presumably he has a brother who is a direct ancestor of yours?
The direct ancestor's parents would be his as well, which would help us narrow down the search.
