For information

James Harold Bylos married Eileen Ellen Oakley, 1944, Glebe, NSW

Jo Report 30 May 2014 04:41

Yes that's him , wow can you tell me anything else about him?

Australia Marriage Index, 1788-1950 about James Harold Bylos

Name: James Harold Bylos
Spouse Name: Eileen Ellen Oakley
Marriage Date: 1944
Marriage Place: New South Wales
Registration Place: Glebe, New South Wales
Registration Year: 1944
Registration Number: 9371

and that is the only record I can find for him

I can find Electoral and Voters Lists for Eileen Ellen Bylos for 1943, 1949, 1954, 1958, 1963 (twice), 1968, and 1980

But she seems to be living alone ......... or at least, not with a person over voting age

her occupation is always shown as Homemaker or Home Duties.

Did James Harold leave her very soon after the marriage?

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 04:55

Jo

apart from the marriage, there is nothing else showing for him on ancestry!

No idea of when he was born, where he went.

There is a James Bylos who appears on the Voters List on 4 records ............. 1949, 1954, 1958 and 1963

James Bylos Male 1949 New South Wales West Sydney Darlinghurst West

James Bylos Male 1954 New South Wales West Sydney Darlinghurst West

James Bylos Male 1958 New South Wales West Sydney Darlinghurst West

James Bylos Male 1963 New South Wales Kingsford-Smith Randwick

This MIGHT be him, especially as he is shown as living in Randwick in 1963, which is where you said he died.

From the image of the 1963 Electors and Voters List ........

James Bylos
11A Cook Street
Shoemaker

On the other 3 lists, he says "no occupation" ................ so may not be the same person

maybe someone with better knowledge of Australian records will be able to help you.

Jo

Jo Report 30 May 2014 05:18

Thank you for that bit of information.
Yes it does sound like him.
If anyone with the knowledge of Australian records could let me know if he had any children besides my mum.

Jo

Jo Report 30 May 2014 05:40

Sorry I believe he was an alcoholic and left when eileen told him she was pregnant with my mother

Jo

Jo Report 30 May 2014 05:54

This hasn't really got anything to do with it's just a little confusing so I thought I should throw a spanner in the works, my mothers brother Lenny has a different dad on his birth certificate it's Lenny McGrath (something like that) and he was born in 1948 my mother was born in 1952.
Could somebody help figure this out please

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 06:01

so ........

let me try to get something straight

Records show that James Harold married Eileen Ellen in 1944

Uncle Lenny was born in 1948, with another name shown as his father

your mother was born in 1952

it sounds almost as though there might have been an earlier break-up, then they got back together, but he then left again.

definitely a little confusing :-)

Jo

Jo Report 30 May 2014 06:10

That's exactly what I was thinking but In all honestly i can not find anything on them it's like the don't exist although I have seen my mums birth certificate but neither parents are on it just my mothers name and a stamp she was born at Annandale hospital

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 06:15

do you have a short form of birth certificate in Australia??

I know that your bc's usually have more information on them than that

I also know that England and Wales have a long and a short form ................... the short form has very little information other than name of child date and where born.

The short form used to be available for free while the long form had a charge ............ so many people who didn't have much money would opt for the short form.

The short form is also issued when a child is adopted and the name is changed.

It's sufficient for government ID purposes (eg, for passports), but gives little useful information

Jo

Jo Report 30 May 2014 06:22

Oh thank you for that I didn't know that was the case.
I'll inform my mother tonight to order a new one.
She received it about 21 years ago.
I'll update as soon as I find out a little more
Kindest regards jo

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 06:32

Jo .......

I don't know whether you have s hort form in Australia!

I'm asking whether you have, as I know England does have.

You'd better find out!

I don't know that there is usually more information on the OZ one than you say is on your mother's.

Jo

Jo Report 30 May 2014 06:53

Yes my mother said it was for the poor people and Eileen wasn't wealthy by any means

There is a table on the link below showing what you can expect to find on historical birth certificates

http://www.jaunay.com/bdm.html

This indicate for NSW that the following info is available:
Child - name/date of birth/place
Father: Name occupation age and birthplace
Mother: Same + maiden name
Marriage date
Previous children

Jo

Jo Report 30 May 2014 07:19

And yes it only had her name Jennifer bylos born 15/11/1952 that was it

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 07:25

so you, or she, should try to get that long form, then you'll get more information :-)
