If you get a copy of his birth cert, you'll have the facts about his parents

There is no recorded birth for a Derek Bailey before about 1920..........................but, in any case, if Albert had a step or - more accurately - half-brother - named Bailey the mother had not been married before

In that case Florence you really need to buy his marriage certificate to get his father's name or else it's all just speculation.

I didn't for one moment imagine that that Bailey was connected, but there isn't another birth for the name until 1922

Certs are the ONLY sensible way to proceed

I agree Reggie. In this case the birth certificate would be the way forward. I wonder if Florence knows when Derek was born? Derek may have been a middle name he was known by? Mr. Widdowson may have died in WW1 and Derek born illegitimately after his death and so registered in the mother's maiden surname.

Too many possibilities for any degree of accuracy!
