BethanHindmarch Report 23 Aug 2014 22:15

Hello everyone; I'm new here and trying to broaden my family tree research.

So far, I've done pretty well on most sides of my family, but I've hit a brick wall with the one relative I wanted to find the most out about!

Her name was Margaret Lloyd (nee Evans); she was my paternal great-grandmother.

She was born in 1904, and died in Pencader in 1949 (on my grandfather's 18th birthday). She is buried in Brynberian chapel. I've really struggled to find her on the censuses on ancestry.com; as far as I can make out from family members (there are very few from that line) there are many half siblings/adopted siblings and it's very confusing. From what I could gather from my grandfather, her father's name was Daniel Evans and is buried near her. There is a Daniel Evans buried two spots over from her, and accordingly he lived 1873-1905. If this was indeed her father, then he passed away the year after she was born, which may be why I haven't been able to find her on the censuses.

My grandfather, who lived in Canada, was in the process of writing out for me any aunts and uncles he could remember from his mother's side when he passed away. I'm currently waiting for my step-cousin to send me the letter he was writing, but communication from her is quite thin on the ground. From photographs I know she had a brother David, and a sister Mat? and possibly a sister Sarah.

Any help or advice would be very VERY gratefully received!

Thanks in advance

Bethan

welcome to the boards Bethan :-)

any idea where she was born - as you are probably aware Evans is very common in Wales and I imagine there are literally hundreds of Margaret Evans'

Hello Bethan, I'd guess the starting point would be to get her marriage certificate which would hopefully give her father's occupation (other than just "deceased"). The witnesses could also possibly give some clues.

Thank you very much Ann, that very well may be her. Unfortunately, I dont know exactly where she was born or where precisely they lived, other than that they had ties to a small village in Pembrokeshire called Brynberian. There was also family living around the Crymych area.
I've discovered there's a member on here who has a Margaret Evans as having been born in Cwrt Farm, which rings a bell, so I'm just waiting for a reply from her (hoping she still frequents the website!)
thank you again for replying!

Lol!

I'm just searching the marriages on here, as I know she married Thomas Emrys Lloyd in Cardigan in 1931 - thanks for that hint MarieCeleste!

just putting this one in - I realise it's not here, but I reckon it's a misspelling of Brynberion and might be a connection

thank-you Ann, that may possibly have been a relation of hers!

do you have any advice with regards to searching for marriages? I've found her on the index, but am I being very dense - is there a means of actually viewing page that is indexed??

Thank you rootgather :) with regards to the marriages, is that the only information that is available, or does the volume number and page number relate to another article which would contain more information? as when I "viewed the orginal", it simply stated her name and her spouses names, and the district, but no further information?

The volume and page number are the reference you need to give when buying the certificate from the GRO.

Me neither :S She died on the 28th December 1949, aged 45...

very nearly just fell off my chair - the certificate would cost almost ten pounds?!

I wonder if this is it but with a typing error for her age?

Did you get her age from a grave marker please?

Yip! Not a cheap hobby......but with such a common surname, I am afraid it's the way to go :-)

BethanHindmarch

BethanHindmarch Report 23 Aug 2014 23:25

I've just been trying to find the photograph of her grave but it's elluding me; I cannot for the life of me remember if the gravestone says she was born in 1904 or if she died at the age of 45 in 1949 ... if the latter case was true then that's subject to error probably.

originally I had been doing my research on ancestry.com, and on that website i was able to find her on the wills and probate, but i cannot find the same record on this website. i hoped that by using another website i'd be able to find a new lead!
