Gillikins Report 22 Feb 2015 23:55

This relative is one of a twin. Born 1871 Barnstaple District, but address Berrynabor, Ilfracombe, Devon. Parents John Robins and Jane Butler. I have traced her twin Frances Georgina Robins/Webber/Britton. Her siblings Frederick 1867, John Charles 1865 and Eva Jane 1862.
She appears at home in 1871 and 1881 in Devon, after which I cannot find her.
No marriage match, no passenger list that seems to fit, no death which seems to fit.

Her family later spelled their name Robbins. The two boys were in Cardiff for a time, one of them, Fred moved to Bristol and Eva married in Bristol, and was living there in 1901. Frances too lived in Bristol and probably died there.

She was known as Kate on census at home.
Her twin Frances, gave birth to a child about 1913 called Amelia K Britton, but she died about a year later. I assume she was named after her aunt.

I have tried every combination of the name I can think of. .and no tree contacts know either.. any ideas please.

Regards G ..losing sleep !!!.

You say her twin Frances gave birth to Amelia Kate Britton but the record doesn't show mother's maiden name as Robbins

Thank you so so much for all your work folks. I too discovered most of your above results/replies .. but just to say.. the John and Jane with Emily is certainly the wrong family.

I had not got the 1911 about the mother Jane Butler/Robins, and the admission of one dead child ... that is a revelation as it narrows the search for Amelia Kate, but still do not have her from 1891 ...

The Amelia Kate B marrying in Bristol, I think is not her, as I found a lot older birth in the Bristol area for this name, so logically this in another person.

I'm reticent to buy certs until am convinced it is the correct one .. but a really good suggestion.

William John V Webber turned out to be Voisey [or Voysey - i forget] on 1901 and he died shortly after, and subsequent remarriage for Frances.

Thank you so much for your expertise, this has taken about a year to sort on and off, but would now like to "bury" Amelia.

p.s. the marriage in 1891 I don't think is correct for my girl, but Walter Hooke Taylor's birth might have been recorded as Walter Turk Taylor ???

I found this but, there are three Amelias born in Devon around her birth date, so unsure.

There were only 5 children listed in 1871 and 1881, and you only refer to 5 names, so one has to assume that child who died pre-1911 was unlikely to be Amelia

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 23 Feb 2015 16:09

John's name was recorded as Robbins when he married Jane

The differences can be attributed to the fact that they probably didn't know how to spell, and the officials wrote what they thought was correct

Gillikins

Gillikins Report 23 Feb 2015 21:54

Thanks for that Argyllgran,

Jacqueline, yes only found five children. John the mason married Jane Butler in 1862, she was a bit older that John, and pregnant then, and the twins would be born when she was about 42 or 43, so I too, have concluded that Jane's dead child might well have been born and died between the censuses.

So I am back to looking for a marriage for her, or death again.

I downloaded an Edward E Britton and Amelia 1911, as she admits a north devon birth, but she may have been ~Amelia Hill, and I cannot find a previous Amelia to Hill marriage, in case she was married twice, so have lost my way on that one. I got this in case this Edward Britton was related to her sister's husband, and the family lived in Cardiff for a while.
.....
thanks very much

How frustrating! I've typed out all the info first, then copied and pasted but it's not all appearing in my post. Have tried several times and before I hit submit the info is all there but when the post appears it's just a few lines. Will edit my post above as it makes little sense and try again later.

Julie

Edit. Nope, tried several times but still not working, must be a glitch in the system. Will try again tomorrow.

Mike, it was about the marriages you posted earlier. If you look for Eva Jane Biddle in 1911 you'll see the connection. I'm logging off for the night!
