If Thomas did indeed die in 1901, then Hilda is presumably the daughter of someone Sarah Ann subsequently had an unmarried relationship with in 1906, and no father will have been named on her birth record.

If you buy a copy of the birth cert you'll have a definite answer.

Thanks for that ArgyllGran I might just send for that. It could make interesting reading.

Thanks again everyone

Please see new thread Merchant Navy look up.

I was hoping to find him either on the Merchant Seamans records or Apprenticeship records. He just seems to have gone missing between 1881 and 1891. Then re appeared for his marriage in 1892.

I have also sent for Thomas Death cert in 1901 to see if Hilda is sarah Anns child.

Sorry if I have caused any problems

Perhaps we should all keep to this one as this is where most of the info is. ??

I will put an appropriate message on the new one to avoid us all duplicating the research. ;-)

Thomas Gray died 29th June 1901 so could not be Hilda's dad.

He accidently drowned while working on the skelton Bridge on the River Ouse in Yorkshire. There was an inquest. Please can someone tell me how I find out what the inquest said.?

I tried googling the accident but nothing came up.

Thanks Chris

For that information I will add it to my records. I didn't have Esthers death and I'm not sure if I had the burial date for Beatrice Mary.

All the best
