Trying to help a friend here.

I know Lorna married in Northam,WA 1941...only one I could find? ,But I do not know who too,Ancestry is not telling me who, until I know that I cannot find any desendents of hers,I have a truck load of family photos and Bibles for this family if only I could find any of them .

Lorna's father was Robert lindley maitland bn 1868 London .
Lorna's Mother was Ira Jenny Muller bn 1869 Germany, died 1956 Kelmscott WA
Lorna's Sister Enid Erika Maitland bn 1905 Perth Western Australia.Died 1977,Kelmscott WA.
Another Sister mavis bn and died 1896

Enid Erika married George N G Armstrong 1932 Canning WA,George died 1979 Armadale WA,I can find no children for that union.

Lorna Married late in life so Am hoping she had some children,to pass this lot onto, wish it was my family ,there is a wealth of Photos to give to someone :-(

Thankyou for any info you can come up with.

Edit
Lorna and her Mother were living together in 1937 River Rd Kelmscott.

BeverleyW Report 26 Apr 2015 09:45

Are you sure she married in 1941?
It's too recent for the record to be on line but Trove has an article of 19th June 1942 (the South Western Advertiser):
"Miss Lorna Maitland of Kelmscott and of the Education Department has taken up an appointment at the Burakin State School."

The 'West Aus State Library' (on-line) has an 'Ask a Librarian' service - they will check electoral rolls past & present. They MAY even check newspaper death notices -if given approx. dates.

cont:

The 'Reverse Marriages' site (ignore its' peculiar name!) shows Lorna Maitland married John R O'Dea 1944 at Northam.

I noticed on another site her birth is shown as 1900 in Northam.

I also noticed on 'National Archives of Aus' a John O'Dea had enlisted -showing next of kin as Lorna. (John's initials vary).

John Richard O'Dea d 19/2/1962 age 64yrs Kelmscott. (can't see Lorna O'Dea)

There are 10 O'dea's listed in WA telephone directory. There may/may not be a connection. Worth a letter to each or even a phone call.

Photos are so precious as they are irreplaceable - once lost, they are lost forever along with them history or family desperately being traced in future years.

We have all found this out.

Good luck,
Sappho

Valerie Report 27 Apr 2015 01:10

The (WA) Library could check John Richard O'Dea's newspaper death notice/s (from given date) 19/2/1962 -for family names. (They can check on Lorna too).

Hi Susan

Here is an article about their mother's birthday. No grandchildren mentioned :-(

http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article149804608

Ira may have been known as Jenny, as there are letters signed J. Maitland, Kelmscott.

Her death shows parents names:
MAITLAND IRA JENNY
Female [aged] 86
Father: IGNATIUS
Mother: HENRIETTA
District: CANNING
Reg: 59
Year: 1956

Not sure what the Mrs T. G. relates to in the O'Dea marriage notice? Also shows John was known as Jack.

Roberta Joy, the youngest child of Edward Bertram O'DEA, is mentioned here:
http://www.writerspen.com.au/pete/BARRON/i0001394.htm
Roberta married Colin Draper TAYLOR in 1958. It appears they had a son (still living) and an adopted daughter.

The son of Edward Bertram, 'Cliff', is this fellow:
http://www.westannouncements.com.au/obituaries/thewest-au/obituary-preview.aspx?n=clifford-odea&pid=154607244&referrer=3057
Her married in 1955 but not sure if his wife is stil alive.

Daughter 'Gwen' was Gwendolene, married in 1950. See Reverse Marriage link above to find out more.

Hopefully the Taylor link will prove helpful!

I know you are not specifically seeking family history but these clues can help find a living relative!!! :-D

P.S. Just an interesting note - George snr b. 1860 was a son of Christopher ARMSTRONG who arrived in WA in 1829 with his father and brothers. His wife Maria/Mary COOPER also arrived in 1829 with her parents. They married in 1848.
