Hi Jacqueline

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, Sheila is actually my friends mother. He gave me the information. I ordered the birth certificate last week but it hasnt arrived yet.

Let's hope it holds the answer.....although it's looking very much as though her parents didn't marry

Is the 1978 death in Leeds that of her father?

Lindylu

Lindylu Report 10 Jun 2015 14:09

I hope so.

Thank you for trying to help.

Lindylu Report 10 Jun 2015 14:12

I'm assuming it is her fathers death but it doesnt really do to assume anything in this game does it?

I'm waiting for his reply to my email for more information as I'm also struggling with the birth of the aforementioned Arthur C Hambly. Just my luck that there seems to be two born in the same area in the same year.

Thank you Gritty

I'm getting the feeling that you may be on the right track with this. Maybe they moved away from the Yorkshire area, although I had thought the death I found in Leeds was the correct one.

The 2005 death is for Alfred not Arthur.

Really need to confirm Sheila's father's Christian name.
If it's Arthur, Looks like he was born and died in Leeds.
Where did the Cornwall information come from ?

Gritty

Gritty Report 10 Jun 2015 14:57

I know not much can be done until you get more info- however, just in case:

Afred C Hambly and Alice are on the Surrey electoral registers in 1938 & 1939- I don't see them again in Surrey until 1964. So it is possible they moved to Yorkshire during the war- My husband's father was transferred to Whitby to run a factory (the Rover Factory) during the war.

Having said that- I've just realised that there were no electoral registers during the war years- but there are births for possible siblings of Sheila in Surrey.

The year of death for your friend's grandparents, and names of Sheila's siblings would be a real help! :-)

It came from my friend (his Grandson) who emailed me this morning with the information.

Is Sheila contactable?

Lindylu

Lindylu Report 10 Jun 2015 16:07

Yes, she is - but my friend is texting her and she's not the quickest at getting back to him.

I also found another birth in the same year with the mothers maiden name semmons - or does that not fit with the quarter?

Lindylu

Lindylu Report 10 Jun 2015 16:11

Actually Jacqueline you have a point. The other Arthur C born in the same year has mothers maiden name as Semmens so the one you found with the mothers maiden name of Johns is the only one it can be.

Now to find a marriage between a Hambly and a Johns. :-S

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 10 Jun 2015 16:24

The one born with MMN Semmens was born too soon to be the man who died in 1978

Okay, curioser and curioser.

Friend just got back to me. Sheila has two sisters, Jennifer and Christine.

After all the searching he has told me that Amy was 'taken in' by the Meads and was never formally adopted so I think I can kiss that one goodbye. Honestly, some people think we can work miracles or are mindreaders.

Amy did have a 'brother' (natural son of the Meads) called Cyril who died about 30 years ago.

Edit: Strangley, when looking at Sheila & Christines births they both have the mothers maiden name of Mead but Jennifers mothers m/n says Alderson. That was actually picked up on by one of the posters earlier wasnt it?

I think the tree just withered....................

Jennifer's (born 1950) MMN was ALDERSON.....................

No other birth with the same MMN

Seems you've opened a real can of worms

Christine's birth has MMN Mead

Lindylu

Lindylu Report 10 Jun 2015 16:50

Youre not wrong there Jacqueline!

It would suggest then that Amy was in fact called Alderson, and maybe she registered one of girls birth whereas maybe her husband did the other two and automatically said Mead because he'd always known her as Mead.

Thanks to all you guys for your help and patience, I really do appreciate it.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 10 Jun 2015 16:51

Could this be why the Meads 'took her in'?

Too early for formal adoption, of course
