Find Ancestors

HI, I am trying to find any records of George before his marriage in 1859 any help much appreciated.

What I have on George he married Selina Chubb 4th Sept 1859 at Stoke Dameral Devon registry office his age 21 he was labourer in HMS dockyard his father
Henry Happel deceased a boatwains mate RN

1861 Census

Mary Macarthy mother 51 widow born Kingsbridge Devon
George is in subsequent census` as Hepple Happle there is a possible death in 1908 Plymouth
This is all I can find I`ve looked for Mary Macarthy and Henry Happel but no joy on either
Any help or suggestions most welcome.

?? Am wondering about this for Mary in 1851. Modbury and Kingsbridge (1851 census pob) are only 8 miles from each other and if she was born at a village somewhere in-between.....

If his age on the censuses is correct he was only 16 or 17 when he married not 21.

This is a srtange one. And why is his mother Mary Macarthy and not Hepple? Can't find a marriage there either. :-S :-S :-S

Many thanks Greyghost I found this Mary and looked for a marriage and couldn't find one for any Happel variation or a marriage to a Macarthy.

Hi alvigal as you say a strange one. I have looked for any Happel/Hepple marriage and can find none that fit also Happel to Macarthy. Very frustrating!!

Hi Margee. His age in 1861/71 etc stays fairly correct if he was 19 in 1861 but. Confusing.

Looking at it again, Gins, there is a possibilty that it's Hepple. Beside Jane McPhail's name it says "Husband at sea" That H looks very much like the first letter of George's surname.
