Thanks PH - have been popping in and out of the tennis all afternoon/evening and have only just seen your comment.

I wonder if the parents of the girls went their separate ways?

There is a correction saying the name is Ledsham.
I don't have a sub, so can't see if there are non-Ledsham's in the h/h.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 1 Jul 2015 15:43

In what way?

Where was her birth registered?

Are you sure she was born to a 15-year old girl?

The 'H' is for Horsfall. HAD to be born before the marriage, in view of age on census.

So not William's child

HORSFALL Jessie Birkenhead 8a 549

Her mother would have been barely 16 when she had her, but, of course, that wasn't illegal in those days

There is a fascinating 'Civil Service Evidence of Age' document relating to William on FMP

As you don't have your own computer, I can't send it to you

It's a declaration by his maternal Aunt, one Jane Nuttall Croxton, Licensed Victualler

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 1 Jul 2015 19:43

Of course, as William wasn't Jessie's father, they aren't related to you, unless, of course, it was Sarah who was not related...........and William IS in your family

It's not really his maternal aunt, I think, but more likely his wife's.
