Also in 1920 a guy called Edmund Blythe built a bandstand at the Green Dragon.

I think he has looking at the situations at the time. Also how did you find out about Henry Ives on that was interesting?

Mary Report 14 Aug 2015 15:44

Green Dragon sold by Auction 22/10/1913 tenant at the tome Henry Iveson who paid £75 per year.

So did Richard (the husband) take that over??

Mary

That's right but doesn't it strike you that he Married Rosanna because she was an Inn-keeper, and when she died 2 years later his profession was a licensed victualler (pub landord). And when she died she was living in another county with her sister and her nephew has followed her.

Seems to me he only Married her for the pub and kicked her and her nephew out as soon as he got his hands on place, that's why he gets nothing in the will it's all left to her nephew

Occupation for Richard Metcalfe who married Rosanna Iveson (Metcalfe) was farm labourer on their marriage cert.

Potty - where's that Marriage record I can't find it?

DJS

DJS Report 14 Aug 2015 14:57

Yes she did Marry a man also called Richard Metcalfe but his profession was a licenced victualler (pub landlord)

Potty Report 14 Aug 2015 14:48

Somebody has posted a possible marriage for Richard & Annie on your other thread - and somebody else has spent time looking for info which you already have here. The reason people are asked to have only one thread per family is to stop this happening!

Looks like I misread the Probate record - it does say her husband was Richard Mercalfe and that probate was granted to Richard Metcalfe, but doen't give that Richard's relationship - sorry!

DJS Report 14 Aug 2015 14:26

Potty - no you're wrong... the Richard Metcalfe in her will is her nephew, Rosanna seperated from her husband...

The executor of the will is her Nephew Richard Metcalfe.

The will reads:

"Be it known that Rosanna Metcalfe of 8 Myers Street Burnley in the county of Lancaster..... died on the 30th March 1917 at 8 Myers Street...... representative of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid court to Richard Metcalfe of 16 Stanworth Street Burnley aforesaid Carter nephew of deceased the sole executor"

There is another possible death for her, nearer the area she lived in earlier:

Name:Rose H Metcalf
Birth Date:abt 1855

Age at Death:64
Registration district:Leeds
Inferred County:Yorkshire West Riding

This looks like her probate - Richard is her husband and is a carter; her address: 8 Myers Street, Burnley:

Name:Rosanna Metcalfe
Probate Date:11 May 1917
Death Date:30 Mar 1917
Death Place:Lancashire, England
Registry:London, England

Was the above Richard Metcalfe mentioned in Rosanna's will her husband or nephew?

UPDATE

I recieved the will of Rosanna Metcalfe and I have found out Richard METCALFE was living at 16 STANWORTH STREET BURNLEY LANCASHIRE, when I contacted the Library for the electoral rolls from that time and they told me Richard was living with a woman called ANNIE METCALFE from 1917 to 1921 at that house and his profession was a CARTER, there was no Ow next to Annie's name so I don't know whether she was his Wife or not.... I have looked through the Marriages and I can't find a Richard Metcalfe getting Married to a Annie between 1911 to 1920.

Maybe they did get Married and they got Married in Gretna Green, he was a carter so he could have traveled up there?

Can anyone help.
