Can somebody have a look to see if they can find an ANNE KNIGHTS I am sure that she was born in Norfolk in 1785, was married in Wellingham and was widowed in 1819. She died in 1848 in Thornham.

I had a look sometime ago, but currently do not have access to the census.

Thanks

John

Yes Knights is her married name.

John

John Report 9 Sep 2015 09:18

I do not think that is her. It seems to suggest that Thomas is her husband. She was widowed in 1819.

I think I remember finding this trace before. In 1851 are they shown as married?

Gee

Gee Report 9 Sep 2015 09:30

So she may have married again?

What were her childrens names please

John Report 9 Sep 2015 10:00

I do not think that she remarried. In the parish register record for her death it states her as widow of Robert (this being the person to whom she was widowed in 1819)

Her children are William born 1815 ( I have a trace of him in the 1841 census)
and Ann born 1813.

Yes that other post is related.

John

John Report 9 Sep 2015 13:13

I am resigned to the fact that she either does not appear on the 1841 census or has been mis-transcribed.

I will have to have a look sometime through the whole census for her.

I only really wanted to find out where she was living as it may give me a clue to where she was born.

There is an Ann Stringer born 31st January 1785 in West Raynham, Norfolk, daughter of Thomas and Ann.
Thomas and Ann also have a son called Peter born 17 December 1789.

Do Thomas and Ann Stringer appear in the 1841 census?

Mary

Mary Report 9 Sep 2015 18:41

In 1803 in Little Walsingham
Peter Stringer was an apprentice to Thos Rumbellow a baker.
I see that on the baptism for Elizabeth Stringer 1813 above had dad Peter Stringer a baker.
Also William knights son of Robert and Ann married Ellen Rumbelow she was born 1821 to Thomas Rumbelow!!

John Report 9 Sep 2015 19:09

Mary how did you find out about Peter Stringer being an apprentice baker.

I knew about William marrying Ellen Rumbelow.

On Ellens baptism entry in 1821 her father is shown as a labourer and on her marriage cert in 1854 her father is shown as a shoemaker. Obviously the apprenticeship did not come to much.

Any trace of the Stringers in 1841?

John

Mary

Mary Report 9 Sep 2015 19:21

Maybe Ellen dad Thomas was another Thomas Rumbellow.

I saw the apprentice record on ancestry and on the baptism for Elizabeth Stringer 1813 it states her dad is a baker (posted above by Chris Ho

Not found Thomas + Ann (parents) in 1841 nor Peter 1789.

Yes sorry Mary. I misread re apprentices. It was Peter who was the apprentice. As you say possibly a different Thomas Rumbelow.

Yes, another baker. I am not sure how Robert fits in.

John

John Report 9 Sep 2015 20:44

I had forgotten about freereg. I think last time I looked at it Norfolk was not too well covered.

Do you know what % of Norfolk has been transcribed?

mgnv

mgnv Report 9 Sep 2015 21:02

The best strategy is to use FreeREG first, then check on the appropriate Parish/ArchdeaconsTranscript/Bishops Transcript image on FS. The transcripts are the C of E's own back-up copies.

If FreeREG has no coverage, then you have to resort to trawling thru the appropriate images yourself.

For the images, see the appropriate Norfolk collection at:
