You mention that from John Grays obituary, It also mentions a brother and sister in law by the name of Mr and Mrs A. E Watson.

If you check back on the 1901 census........Kate has a brother Alfred E Watson.

Jane

Jane Report 27 Feb 2016 15:27

Thanks PricklyHolly

It looks as if I am on the right track now. As you say from the obituary Kate had a brother A e Watson and there he is on the 1901 census with her.

Thank you so much for all your help

Thank you rootgatherer and PricklyHolly

You both have been trying really hard to help me. thank you so much.

The name Peter and Michael have appeared in newspaper cutting I have but they didn't give any surnames so I had no idea who they were. It appears from the information you have found that they are Watson's. So that clears that up.

Dennis is still proving a problem. One day I will get to the bottom of it.

Thanks again

Jane

I think things are beginning to fall into place, My relative said "Whether Sarah Niles was before or after Mary Proctor we don't know but then he married Lizzie ??? who was the mother of Dennis Gray, Hilda Gray (Eggitt) and Mary Gray (Cowling) Lizzie died as a result of child birth and the 3 weeks old Mary Elizabeth....

I cant find a marriage to a Lizzy but I think Mary E Proctor is Lizzy. I think Mary e Proctor died as a result of Child birth. interestingly I found this:

Births Jun 1930 (>99%)

Clayton Irene M White Lincoln 7a 780
Holden Ronald Hlden Lincoln 7a 780
Proctor Dennis Gray Lincoln 7a 780
Saunders Brian Saunders Lincoln 7a 780
Watt Maureen A Debus Lincoln 7a 780

So was Dennis actually a Proctor. If so was Mary Proctors maiden name Gray. This relative of mine also said

"Just to complicate things, mum seems to recall that at some time or other one of the Grays married into a completely different family also called Gray"

It seems to fit. Or is it just wishful thinking on my part.

Jane

I've tried looking at Denis too but perhaps like "Harry" he used his middle name.

When did Hilda's mother die? I'm think that if Aunt Kate gave Dennis a hard time he must have been living with his Dad while Kate was his housekeeper. I wonder if he is the closed record in 1939 with John and Kate.

I think Dennis Proctor is with his parents Ida and George in 1939. His record is closed (so maybe still living). His brother Eddie's record is open.

Hi rootgatherer

Ah!! I didn't look at the year she died. Mary Elizabeth died in 1921 so that would mean She can't be Dennis's mum, not the one born in 1930 anyway. Drat

I am thinking though that he is the missing person on the 1939 register.

I can't think of anyone else it could be.
